Don’t believe everything you hear. The Senate Democrats are not on the verge of a collapse. They are on the verge of compromising every single thing they want just so they can get a “health care reform” bill passed.

Here’s what I’m being told:

This is really bad — call all Senators — Nelson is lone hold-out unless we can create a firestorm today.

If she does, Michael Steele needs to hear from us.

Snowe will NOT vote for cloture. Stop the damned lies. We need to be fighting against the RATS.

Nelson cannot be left standing alone or they will close every military installation in Nebraksa. Hardball, and I am not kidding.

Stop trashing Snowe and Collins. They are a firm NO.

Who didn’t know they’d pass something?

- Obama needs something, anything.

- The Rats think if they pass something and let the debate drop, they’ll be fine in 2010, (past history would seem to be on their side).

- Once they pass something, they can continually modify it until it becomes what they wanted in the first place.

And the people sleep.

All they need is a pseudo bill to get passed. Then the bureaucrats go to work implementing it with their own rules and regulations. It will be a DISASTER!!!!

Don’t believe everything you hear.

That's been my watchword with this whole thing. This was supposed to be done before August 1st.

I don't believe they are close to a deal. I don't believe they're falling apart. I will just keep calling.

If there is no public option and no Medicare buy-in, then what exactly is passing?

I’ve seen it written in several places — and I agree — that all but the most liberal Democrats would be best served individually if this legislation came very, very close but failed.

Conservative Democrats voting against the bill could then say that they held their ground. Liberals could engage in their usual hand-wringing. Etc. And the bulk of them could still hope to be re-elected — according to this theory.

There would still be heavy Democratic losses next November but not so catastrophic as if the legislation passes (voters will revolt in massive numbers) or if it goes down to a brutal defeat (Dems look not only leftist but also incompetent).

The problem with this theory — which I will say again that I endorse — is that it is difficult or impossible for any coalition to engineer a 1- or 2-vote defeat. If it’s that close, it may well pass.

My problems with Lieberman, Nelson, Snowe, Collins, et al is not merely that I dislike them intensely. I think that their waffling is all an act. They want the legislation to fail; they may well vote against in the end; but their behavior serves to keep this ugly, ugly, ugly initiative alive, and in the process significantly enhance its prospects — whether they ultimately support it or not.

Not that my opinion matters, but any respect I may yet have for any of them requires that they throw this nonsense down, say that they won’t vote for it under any circumstances, and more generally take a GD stand.

Their present behavior is worse, in my opinion, than if they were to come out in support. They want their cakes and to eat them too. And I hate them for that.

Laura Ingraham just said Obama has threatened to close the big AF base during the next round of base closings if he does not support Obama/Reid-care. And if he does, he will get more "stimulus" money than Mary Landrieu of LA.

I think it very likely they can get some watered down bill out of the Senate. However, the Lefty Nutroots are gearing up a major hissy-fit over the compromising away of Medicare for All. This should be encouraged as it will very likely shipwreck the effort to reconcile with the House.

Using the threat of closing military bases unless Nelson votes is political terrorism.
The people of Nebraska should be outraged at this fascist move to destroy their state unless they comply.

the state, in kind, should tell the feds that in leiu of their threat, Nebraska will no longer collect or forward federal income taxes, gas taxes, or any other tax.

The fascist leftdingers want to destroy America one state at a time. It’s time the 10th amendment is invoked to say NO to government healthscare.

Very, very true. ,p>The fix is in and has been for a long time.

Don’t be naive. There may be no conference. The House will simply convene and pass the Senate bill.

Deal done, enacted into law.

WAKE UP.

Fox reported this morning that the feds have denied Social Security recipients a cost-of-living increase next year. That will incense them even more with medicare cuts and inflation that is already occurring (interest rate increase just this morning).

First of all, rude you, CLOTURE has already been voted on. Look up its definition.

Secondly, I just read a Maine FReeper’s posting who write that Snowe has signaled in a letter to her that she is now ready to vote for it.

Thirdly, I already know about the threats to Nelson.

Fourthly, do NOT ever accuse me of lying.

Fifth and final to you: I know the enemy and the enemy includes liberal Republicans who sell out our country as easily as their democrat counterparts, so do not ever again try to lecture me.

THe devil is in the regulatory details and the bureaucracy being set up.

Expanding medicare would have met their goals bugt they can do what they want to via regulation.

The whole bill needs throwing out.
