WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Winchester Ammunition was recently awarded a contract by the Immigration, Customs and Enforcement (ICE) division of the Department of Homeland Security to supply a maximum of 200 million, 40 cal. rounds over the next five years.
The load selected for this contract is a 135-grain, hollow point designed for the office of Field Operations of Customs and Border Protection. It will fall under the Winchester Ranger line.

With just over 15,000 employees, that works out to just over 13,000 rounds per employee...

Any idea how this compares to previous orders?

I wonder how many of those rounds will end up piercing the bodies of anti-0bama protesters at some future time.

The ICE division of HS is what has ordered this enormous cache.

Why does our government need hollow point?
To: ScottinVA
Probably none. I think this administration is starting to spend every dollar they can possibly spend between now and election day in November, 2010. They’re effectively doing more economic stimulus spending without calling it another stimulus bill. That’s why the senate just passed a budget bill with big increases for the State Dept. and Education Dept., which they surely don’t need.

They need 200 million rounds of ammunition for what, exactly?

With just over 15,000 employees, that works out to just over 13,000 rounds per employee... Based on how most "employees" shoot - it looks to me like they are about 10,000 rounds short!
