WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Winchester Ammunition was recently awarded a contract by the Immigration, Customs and Enforcement (ICE) division of the Department of Homeland Security to supply a maximum of 200 million, 40 cal. rounds over the next five years.

The load selected for this contract is a 135-grain, hollow point designed for the office of Field Operations of Customs and Border Protection. It will fall under the Winchester Ranger line.

My Brother was a machinist and a bit of a tinkerer. He actually made his own scope mounts for Mosin Nagant rifles which fit the rear sight base. He showed to to me and it was as solid as could be. The mount extended back over the action so you could use a standard eye relief scope on it.

It looked a bit odd but worked perfectly. His Son and I both suggested he patent it but he thought it was just too much trouble for something which might not sell.

I think the whole idea of using a 9mm barrel with those long mags would be to load the long 147 gr hp bullet out quite a bit leaving enough room for a lot more powder and the space for it to burn. This should feed better and I think one could come close to .357 mag power out of it. The actions are said to be real strong.

Interesting choice. A .40 caliber 135 grain hollow point bullet packs quite a punch...

Anyone know what the MV numbers are on those rounds??

I got some nice wood grips too, but how do you hide the ugly of that grip clip? Its purely utilitarian.

At least the hogue covers up that grip clip.

And honestly it makes it point true.

Finally got the XTP rounds I ordered. May trade up to them, but gotta put a few rounds down range first. Use a Kel-Tec as my carry piece, and it’s not exactly an easy gun to shoot if you don’t practice with it. Want to see how the XTPs perform w/r/t kick et al.

Comments would be helpful to know what would expect, esp vs CD rounds.

(Once winter really sets in, my carry piece is a Sig Pro. It will handle anything, and it’s already loaded with the XTPs.)

OK, so who are they going to shoot 200 million times?

All the racists opposed to health care...which adds up to 200 million people! It only takes one round per person when they kneel on the edge of the pit.

I like the Kel Tec but the DA trigger is too long, that will cause me to pull to the left.

I like the P 64 with a lightened Walther trigger spring.

They’re using hollow points?

Don't you?

Virtually all police, sheriffs and other LEOs use them.

I have Remington 230 grn. Golden Sabre's in my 1911 and 200 grn. Federal Hydro-Shok in my "other" .45 ACP.

If I have to shoot someone, I want them to stay shot!

Agreed about the trigger pull, which is also rough and too heavy out of the box. But is what I could afford at the time that fit my size/mag cap/cost requirements, and I’ve gotten used to it so I can’t justify spending the money to mod/replace it.

Frankly, it’s a beast to handle. A buddy saw me rapid fire a clip of 10 at 25 feet (brag: all in the paint) with it on his farm and thought it would be a good carry firearm for his wife. So I let him shoot it. He caught it before it hit the ground when it jumped out of his hand on the first shot.

Now my Sig Pro is a dream...

Why does our government need hollow point?

Because if some Border Patrol agent has to shoot some Coyote or drug runner, he/she will want them to go down.

Virtually all police use them. Only the military is not supposed to use them in "civilized" warfare.

They are on the CTD website.

No Wolf there now. The only HP they have for 7.62x25 are MagSafe 52 grain @$14.62 for 8 rounds. http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/ItemListing.aspx?catid=733

They do have the milsurp(Romanian) 1224 round tin for $129.97.

So does Aim Surplus but also no HP.

Sportsman's Guide has the Wolf HP ($19.27/50rds) , as well as various other FMJ loadings.

Sig Sauer P-229s and Subguns

Theyre gonna stock up on ammo so they wont run out like the American citizens have this past year.

Actually, I cant imagine there are more than a couple thousand ICE agents and even if they had to qualify a couple times per year how is it they need that much ammo?

I use 147gr OSM for my nines due its hard subsonic hits for a few NFA toys I own. Used same toys in the service with the same OSM loads an they worked very well on soft targets.

I will peek at the ballistics of the load you recommend yet I need to stay subsonic for the cans to work.
