Poll: 81 percent of Democrats want Lieberman punished

More than 80 percent of Democrats say they believe Sen. Joe Lieberman should be stripped of his chairmanship in the Senate if he ends up supporting a Republican filibuster of health care reform.

According to the Huffington Post, the Progressive Change Campaign Committee and Democracy for America ordered a study a few days ago, in which they polled over 800 voters.

The main question in the poll was whether Lieberman - an Independent who usually caucuses with the Democrats - should lose his chairmanship of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee. 81 percent of Democrats responded that they think he should lose that chairmanship should he sustain a health care reform filibuster . One contributing factor to the high number of Democrats who wish Lieberman punished is that this is not the first time he has gone against the Democratic leadership since they took back power. During the 2008 Presidential campaign, Lieberman openly campaigned for Senator John McCain. Only 10 percent of Democrats said there should be no punishment, and only nine percent said they weren't sure.

Among Independents, 43 percent said that Lieberman should lose his position, while 30 percent said. Not surprisingly, only 10 percent of Republicans feel he should be punished for helping them.

Lieberman reportedly recently told Senate Majority leader that he would vote against the Health Care Reform bill in it's present form, and would support any Republican attempts at filibustering the bill.

He can come out with the same speech that snarlin Arlen came out with when he jumped ship. The democrats don’t have a big tent, they’ve abandoned me.

As a Ct resident, I can’t say how proud I am of Sen Lieberman.

While he is liberal, he’s good on big issues.

I would ask Senator Liberman what is most important to him? His Chairmanship or what he knows is right for the American people and what they want not what the rest want to shove down our throats.

Senator Leiberman...do the right thing!

I supported the action against Dede Scoz after she endorsed the RAT, so I kind of understand how they feel. But there is a difference; Joe is technically an independent so RATS shouldnt expect him to be with them 100%.

That said, I agree that Joe should stop associating with these fleabags.

Looks like this 81% are 100% clueless. I hope we can get a list of ALL their names so that 100% will be voted out. They shouldn’t be anywhere near our Government.

How many thought he should have been stripped of the Chairmanship the moment he declared Independent? Subtract that number from the 81 to see whow they really feel about this Health Care business.

I thought the Democrats were the party of Bi-partisanship while celebrating the diversity of political views unlike the mean and ‘stuck in their ways’ republicans???

Joe is always one step ahead of his radical left wing attackers. That’s what happens when you stand firmly on the right side of the issues, you win because the truth has a way of being an impossible force to oppose.
