SALT LAKE CITY -- Mitt Romney is preparing for a more prominent presence on the national scene with a new book coming out next spring. Tickets go on sale next week for a major book event in downtown Salt Lake City in March.
One year since the presidential election ended, Romney is stepping up his profile with national TV appearances, newspaper Op-Eds, fundraising for fellow Republicans and a new book called "No Apology: The Case for America's Greatness."
The book comes out March 2. One of the first events in a national book tour will be at the Salt Palace March 13 -- a book signing and lecture hosted by the University of Utah's Hinckley Institute of Politics.
Kirk Jowers, a long-time Romney backer, is its director.
"We hope to have about 10,000 people. Everyone that comes to the event will get a first edition signed copy," he says.
The themes he seems likely to write about are already apparent. At an event earlier this month in Provo, Romney said the policies of the president, including the federal stimulus, had made the recession worse, and that the government needed to stop scaring the private sector with takeovers.
Jowers says the book will offer ideas about turning around a nation some see as in a decline.
"I think he sees the danger. I think he's very optimistic and thinks we're not at that precipice necessarily -- we can continue to ascend -- but I think he sees some very dangerous fault lines," he says.
When it was suggested two weeks ago he sounded like he's running, Romney told us, "No, I sound like I'm working hard for good Republican candidates across the country."
However, with other top Republicans like Sarah Palin and Mike Huckabee confronting recent troubles and the economy top of mind, Romney seems poised for another shot.
"If you're a Romney fan, I think everything has broken his way so far," says Jowers.
The website MittRomneyUtah goes live and tickets go on sale this Thursday at 10 a.m.
I calculate that it would take Romney 28 hours of non-stop signing at ten seconds a book to do 10,000. That’s without a break.
How many places on this planet would they be able to ensure that Romney draws a large crowd other than this specific venue in Utah?
It sounds like worthwhile reading to me.
I will purchase his book.
Disgusting.
Romeny’s next book, “No Apology.”

I would of thought his home state of Michigan...er..home in Massachusett..er..he’s living in La Jolla, California or maybe New Hampshire, or Colorado....
Nope, back to the Bee Hive state.
He
Just
doesn’t
get
it.
He’s starting to really remind me of that other clueless Harvard guy, Dukakis.
Four months to bribe an arena full of people and Palin’s had ‘recent troubles’?
I was thinking, that’s a lot of Romneycare campaign aids to bring in to Salt Lake.
I have never held any respect for Ron Paul.
BUT I find he is still slightly higher in my esteem than Mitt Romney.
I find it fascinating that some morons will actually support a democrat as long as there is an ‘R’ by the name instead of a ‘D.’
McCain was the last time I held my nose and voted for a RINO.
and then it was only because of Sarah.
No more. If my only option is a RINO I will go to a 3rd party or simply not vote. If a democrat gets in, too bad. The GOP either stands by its conservative base or I’m gone.
I used to hold 3rd parties in disdain after seeing Clinton use one to split the GOP vote. Not any more. There is simply no reason for me to support a liberal republican like Romney. If RINOs are all the Republicans are willing to offer me than I will no longer be a republican.
Mitt Romney is a fraud of a man, and he is no conservative.
His supporters can go hang out in the hall of shame with the Ron Paul people...cause I won’t respect them either.
Hey, if any prospective candidate already has enough paid aides to fill a stadium it’s got to be Romney!
Ditto!:)
R/P 2012 ticket!
We have had no shortages of common, simple, proven ways of ‘turning an country( economy ) around. Ideas are too...gussy, overblown, over thought of a word for what should be done. What we lack are the men of courage to execute those tasks.
Mitt’s not one of them. Never has been, will never be.
He is timid, unsure, confused, and frankly cowardly.
His only record is one of proposing and expand more government intervention in commerce, liberties and a persons, ie, Romneycare.
He bailed out hacks, and most likely Mormon cronies in Utah with Federal dollars. They should of been hearings, investigations and arrests.
He proposed a 20 billion dollar bailout/subsidise/payoff for Detroit, from the taxpayers at large via the Federal government. A la Obamanomics Lite for Detroit.
He has the education( I’m assuming Harvard has worn off ), the intelligence, but lacks the spine, fight and popular attraction to rally common people.
His notion of having the book signing in Utah is just plain stupid move for national office. ( Yeah, yeah, he’s not running. Sure. )
Omnium consensu capax imperii nisi imperasset. ( Fit to rule, so long as he doesn’t )
Wait a week or two after it comes out and then you can pick it up at Costco/Sam’s Club for a couple of bucks.
( Anyone want my Hugh Hewitt mancrush book, A Mormon In The White House? Free shipping. First freepmail gets it.)
that is how I buy my books Beck, Palin, Levin etc.
That’s about the production cost of a common construction hardcover, plus it puts strain on the lefty employing coffee klatch book chains, which is a good thing.
I know there is going to be justice and won’t it be sweet!
So you don’t like Men in Black, Liberty and Tyranny, Going Rogue etc
I’m more of a James M. Buchanan, Hayek, Meise, Locke reader. I already know the drill. I will read, sadly like a pathologist of politics, Mitt’s book, just to see if there is an inkling of back bone in it. I will definitely read Rouge. It’s on the shelf.
I read Jon Kerry’s typical “ I’m running “ book, and it was pathetically disturbing. The man is weaker, more delusion than even my cynicism could imagine.
The best I’ve read of this type was Prince Of Darkness. I really recommend the book to anyone that thinks there is any hope at all, which there isn’t, of saving Washington.
We need a Jesus at the steps with the money changer types. That’s it. The sooner Washington becomes a overgrown malarial swamp with kudzu covered ruins, a Detroit of administration, the better.
Romney - Absent on everything of substance from Warmergate
to ACORN .... until it is safe.
