In early November, Democratic representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz of Florida accused House Republicans of giving women "back-of-the-hand treatment" during a parliamentary dust-up over a health care debate.
Her ridiculous rhetoric, about what amounted to a heated argument, happened to coincide with the media blitz of newly ordained press darling Dede Scozzafava, playing the role of mistreated moderate woman ousted from the Republican party by rabid conservatives because of her views on social issues.
And thus a storyline was born. The Politico's coverage led the way, under the headline, "The GOP's women problem":
Conservatives say they pushed Dede Scozzafava out of the House race in New York's 23rd District a week ago because of her left-of-Republican social views--and not because she is a woman. But the growing schism between the Republican party's ascendant right wing and its shrinking moderate core has clear gender undertones.
When did you stop beating your promising, reasonable, moderate female candidates? Hmm?
The storyline relies on a misunderstanding of Scozzafava, willful ignorance of the recent behavior of women voters, and denial of the GOP's 2010 candidate field.
Scozzafava's ouster had little to do with her sex and a lot to do with the fact that she was a "moderate" Republican only if you believe "moderates" are endorsed by Markos Zuniga of Daily Kos, support card-check and the stimulus, work closely with ACORN-entangled liberal advocacy groups, and are funded primarily by Planned Parenthood and the Service Employees International Union.
Scozzafava is far from the model for reasonable, moderate Republican women. She's the kind of woman who calls the cops on a reporter for asking her policy questions. But she's the woman liberals wish represented Republicans--because she's a liberal herself, which is why she became an improbable fetish of the Fourth Estate.

What a dishonest (or stupid) clown. Firstly, Scozzafava's views were left of democrats, not just republicans. Secondly, "clear gender undertones"...really?! How about Palin and Bachmann? Last I observed I believe they are both women who are well embraced by the ascendant right wing. I'm growing tired of the corruption and flat out in your face dishonesty of liberals.
So many pundit type writers just rearrange some words and repeat what everyone else says, but MKH is not only generating original material, but writes about it from a unique perspective and with an entertaining style.
I am better informed afer reading her.

If liberal women even had a clue about how most conservative women are treated by their men there would be a whole lot more conservative women! Instead they stay with guys who use them then dump them.
Actually I found that article to be a bit excuse making and accepting of the left’s premise. For example she fails to note that McCain won a majority of white women. And I believe I heard the other day the Dims have not won a majority of white women in a long time.

This information was obscured under the CNN headline, "Male, rural, suburban votes boost McDonnell."
I think you may have missed the point of the article.
Actually no I did not miss the point of the article. The point of the article was to accept a Dim criticism that the GOP is not appealing to women as potentially valid and argue against it based on a sample of two off-off term election in two states.
As I pointed out, the premise is wrong and the author did not impress me much by accepting the Dim premise that the GOP does poorly with women when in fact the Dims have not won a majority of white women voters in many many elections. Her tone was somewhat apologetic about the past when in fact AGAIN the GOP does quite well with women. Really it comes down to:
1. The GOP does well with white women.
2. The Dims do well with black women and that seems to be more of a black thing, witness H. Clinton in the primaries in 2008 who simiarly did not attract black women. Now could/should the GOP do better among black voters, I think yes, but that is another topic.
3. The GOP does well with married women.
4. The Dims do well with single women. At least this point was touched on in the article but not explored in depth.
Some of these categories are related and a full discussion would be interesting. But an apology essay agreeing with a false Dim talking point that the GOP has not done well with women in the past does not really seem to be a very insightful column to me even with the predictable but look at all these women candidates we have this time subplot. But maybe that is just me.

She's absolutely adorable. Whenever she's on Fox opposite some liberal schrew blathering on, I can't take my eyes off Mary Katherine as she rolls her eyes and giggles at the nonsense. Then when she speaks, my faith is renewed that not all American women are spoiled bourgois socialist sourpusses.
