The veil being lifted ever so slightly.
Don't get your hopes up, folks. The Slimes will say something soothing and this will all go away.

while the liberal-leaning media gossip blog Gawker.com called it "a celebration of the racist assumption that 'people of color' are defined by their colors." Uhhhhhh....

The NYT isn’t racist, its editors just believe that “people of color” need to be patted on the head and smugly told how to behave by culturally superior liberal whites.

I work in an industry that is jam-packed with liberals, and they are unbelievably racist. Their racism operates on the assumption that they are universally smarter than everyone “of color” because they know what’s best for them, and they also have absurd double standards.
None of this is news to any of you, of course, but imagine if minorities would wake up and realize how the left exploits them...

Since you bring it up...how many Black Powers That Be are there at The Slimes?

I have no real comment on the story (other than to confirm that liberals are much more likely to be patronizing racists than conservatives), but just wanted to say that this is the biggest percentage of zapped posts I’ve ever seen on a FR thread. Seems I missed the fun.

This first-time feature is described by the paper as "gifts created for and by people of color." Since all races, including whites, have color, the phrase "people of color" should refer to everybody.

wow, I don't think I've ever seen so many "Comment #x Removed by Moderator" before in one thread.

"Critics of the Times tend to do this -- they tend to attack something niche-y as if it was formulated and written by The White Powers that Be at the paper, like they're pushing some fetishized version of how black people think and what they would want." The NYT isn't patronizing toward blacks, it's just compassionate.

This is one I don’t blame the NYT for. There IS a ‘color’ subculture in the US, and promoting items made by/for a given ethnic group should be a good thing.
For years my sainted hub bought “FUBU” t-shirts and sweatshirts at Marshalls, delighted with his ‘deals.’ Eventually someone told him it meant “For Us By Us.” It was a line of clothes designed by and made especially for black men. The designers/manufacturers probably wouldn’t have liked his most WASPy self wearing their duds.
(This is the same fashionista who years ago saw so many Tommy Hilfiger shirts in DC around the courthouse and DC government buildings that he thought Tommy Hilfiger was a Democrat candidate for office in DC)
