Leaked memo: Gitmo detainees to be transferred to Illinois prison

Another scoop for Breitbart, but with a caveat. The One’s team insists that the memo’s only a draft, even if it does just so happen to jibe with news reports from last month.

“This is a draft, predecisional document that lawyers at various agencies were drafting in preparation for a potential future announcement about where to house GTMO detainees,” the administration official said. “Drafts of official documents are often prepared for any and all possibilities, regardless of whether a decision has been made about the policy or if the document will be used.”…

The leaked memo was met with approval by Illinois Sen. Dick Durbin and Gov. Pat Quinn, both Democrats, even as they acknowledged that the decision is not yet final.

“As we have said many times, this move will have an enormous impact on our state – potentially generating up to 3,800 jobs and potentially injecting more than $1 billion into the regional economy,” the two said in a statement. “This is an opportunity to dramatically reduce unemployment, create thousands of good-paying jobs and breathe new economic life into this part of downstate Illinois.”

Yes, no doubt the locals will be thrilled, but frankly the location’s a no-brainer: The only politician in America who could force this onto his home state with little fear of a NIMBY backlash is Obama himself. As for why it’s a draft instead of a final order, there’s an explanation for that too. Last month Congress agreed to lift the ban on transporting Gitmo detainees to the United States — but only for those, like KSM, who are here to stand trial. What about those who aren’t?

...of course and Durban and ODUMBO will get millions in campaign money from CHI-TOWN officials for jobs. Each detainee will cost the US tax payer $2 million a year....

They should be sent to the West Wing of the White House. They have more friends there.

Obama’s house in Chicago is empty. Why not let them stay there?

LOL, this is SOOOOO stupid. A prison for terrorists on a Navy base in Cuba is Super Evil, but a prison for the same terrorists in Illinois is good? I can see the new protest signs: “Illinois, headquarters of prisoner abuse!”

The politicians didn’t gave two squirts about creating jobs in northwest Illinois until about 6 weeks ago. I know, I live here. This is all about enabling Obama to satisfy his campaign promise and close Gitmo. The fact that it’s in Illinois helps because he’s got the Democrat party and Durbin, Burris, and many of the members of Congress in his pocket but that’s about it.

Rumor is this was a done-deal from the get-go. Obama just made them go through the motions to make it appear as if they gave a damn what the locals thought about it.

Like everything else.

I know the feeling. Our two ‘rat Senators don’t care that the State continues to tank.

“”This is a draft, predecisional document “”

Wouldn’t “a draft” been enough? Does the word “predecisional” even exist? But then, they are talking to the unwashed and unHarvard educated..lest we forget how important/intelligent the members of this administration are - or think they are.

I have absolutely no doubt that the Gitmo prisoners will go to Illinois. First, Obama has to so something to save face. And second, some people in Illinois are going to make a killing on the sale of the prison to the feds and on the retrofitting that will be required to make it "muslim-friendly"!

I wish someone would do a study of how much we have spent on getting Gitmo fit for harboring them and on how much it is costing for the military to guard them. Compare those costs with buying the new prison, getting it fixed up and hiring new federal employees to do the job.
