NASA Stonewalling Stokes Fears Climategate Will Spread to U.S.

Climategate may be just the tip of the global-warming iceberg according to the Washington, D.C.-based Competitive Enterprise Institute, which says the next weather-science scandal may erupt right here in the United States.

For nearly three years CEI, a free-market, public-interest organization, has pursued a series of Freedom of Information Act Requests intended to force NASA's climate-science division to hand over e-mails it says could reflect the same sort of pro-warming bias seen in the recent e-mails from the Climatic Research Unit (CRU) of East Anglia University.

One reason NASA's unresponsiveness is drawing attention: For years, the CRU stonewalled a request filed through the British information-act process, before information was "hacked" and posted on the Internet in November.

"They have resisted and haven't wanted to turn anything over," CEI Energy and Global Warming Policy Director Myron Ebell says of NASA. ". . . So this looks like climategate all over again to us."

CEI senior fellow Chris Horner, author of Red Hot Lies: How Global Warming Alarmists Use Threats, Fraud, and Deception to Keep You Misinformed, has led the fight for the information.

Horner is requesting internal e-mails and other information from NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS).

That institute, directed by controversial global-warming advocate James Hansen, has played an influential role in stoking concern that massive climate changes endanger the planet.

Horner tells Newsmax that he fully expects the GISS data will echo the U.K.-based CRU e-mails.

How could another mighty icon have so far so fast? When I was a kid, Saturn V rockets, the moon landings, pictures of Americans on the moon and pictures looking back at the blue marble we live on...it was amazing stuff, mistakes and all.

Now we have space shuttle disasters, the last shuttle mission and our relying on the Russians to take us into space while NASA's Hansen is busy pushing the global warming hoax on us. What has happened to my country in such a short period of time?

The reality is that NASA was formed to develop and go with manned space flight and also send robots and other materials into space. IT WAS NOT FORMED TO supervise the weather now or in the future. Some of the idiots in the left wing congress placed this one on them and this so called climate control freak named Hansen has been a liar ever since he started with a new ice age several years (to congress) ago and then went to the money side for the global warming freaks who are making billions like Al Whore.

The money that they use for this stupid weather forecast should be put back into the manned space flight arena where it was originally their duty to do.

Just the mere act of delaying, refusing to release information, censoring, and/or denying that the information does not exist under a FOI request is ABSOLUTE PROOF they are hiding information that will “sink their boat.”

That has never failed and never will. You only hide something so that you will not be found out for what/who you really are.

Worse yet, the money spent for their research (or studies) was paid for by the public. Unless the information is detrimental to the national security...THERE SHOULD BE NO SECRETS, and refusal to fully disclose should result in criminal actions, namely fraud upon the citizens.

This is very confusing.

If NASA has released its raw data, why would CEI threaten NASA with a lawsuit to release data?

The real raw data are held by NOAA. NASA start with data messaged by NOAA. Though GISS in the last few weeks has changed the data that they release through their website.

One could examine GISS data, but not their detailed adjustment proceedures.

GISS have not been completely open and transparent, but at least have had a means to start to check up on them unlike the complete stonewalling of CRU.

Thanks. So, since GISS does not have the raw data (if it still exists), the FOI request (no response for more than 2 years) requested that GISS show how they produced their “released” data?

I'm not completely sure what these folks are after. GISS do have a history of keeping their process secret and are run by a near lunatic, James Hansen.

Climate Audit has deconstructed some of their methods and made them revise their output a couple of times when problems were found. GISS have provided personnel to run the website RealClimate to promote their agenda (in coordination with Michael Mann of PSU and the CRU in the UK) so they are part of the Catastrophic Anthropogenic Global Warming Alarmist Cabal.

Obtaining GISS internal e-mails would be very entertaining now that we have >1000 CRU emails to review.
