MOSCOW Russia admitted on Thursday another failed test of its much-touted Bulava intercontinental missile, after unusual lights were spotted in Norway across the border from the launch site.
The submarine-based Bulava (Mace) missile has been billed as Russia's newest technological breakthrough to support its nuclear deterrent, but the repeated test failures are an embarrassment for the Kremlin.
The missile failed in its 13th test on Wednesday morning, Russia's leading economic dailies Vedomosti and Kommersant reported on Thursday, quoting sources in the military-industrial complex.
Hours later, the Defense Ministry admitted the failure, saying the launch had been made by the Dmitry Donskoi nuclear submarine from a submerged position in the White Sea.
"It has been established ... that the missile's first two stages worked as normal, but there was a technical malfunction at the next, third, stage of the trajectory," a Defense Ministry spokesman said.

I guess it just wasn't time............
LOL! So much for UFO’s and the supernatural explanations abundant here on FR. It seems that, sometimes, even FR is moonbat central.
I still say it was the glare off Mo’s gold outfit.
Even something as spectacular looking as this, it had to be a mundane explanation.
Can someone explain the physics and/or optics that caused a failed missile launch to generate the Norwegian light show?
I guess its more fun to moonbat than to reason.
Tromsø Geophysical Observatory researcher Truls Lynne Hansen was certain the light had been caused by a missile launch.
He told Norwegian media that the missile had likely lost control and exploded. The spiral, he claimed, was the result of light reflecting on the leaking fuel. He was quoted as saying the light was sunlight, despite the strange lights showing up at night.
Given the choice between that explanation and a UFO or black hole, well......
I believe the lights were President Obama being lofted to Heaven by a multicultural host of angels.
Stuff happens
A spinning separated booster/plumes would cause the pin wheels. The sun was nearly set but the rocket and plumes were high enough over the earth’s horizon to catch sunlight that would still be visible that high up at those latitudes...the blue green “rays and spiral” were the plume of the missile initial launch that had drifted( and at high altitude) in such a way that the longer rays of the setting sun could illuminate them in spectral green. The plumes might have shown yellow or orange depending on altitude and location in relation to the setting sun. Think of a prism effect and how the effect changes depending on viewing angle, curvature and lighting angle.
It wasn’t a “light show”. It was a cloud swirl caused by the dying booster rocket’s weird path.
bad aerodynaimcs caused it to spiral before detonation?
More likely an aysmmetrical thrust condition, such as a fuel tank blowout. The sideways kick spun the upper stage end over end, slinging out vaporized fuel in a spiral that caught the rays of the sun.
That, or a wormhole opening up.
Thought for a minute it was a bright star in the east forecasting The One’s arrival in Oslo.
There’s a tear in the space time continuim!
I stand corrected!
Here is an excellent explanation. Sounds plausible!

Norway Cloud Spiral - Simulation of possible explanation
The simulation explains it fairly close to what I was thinking....the colored contrail I think has to due with the position of the sun and the prismatic effects of the atmosphere, especially at that time of day, that high up in altitude and that latitude.

Russians send up ultimate prank poking fun at Obama's cult like following. ;)

Coincidence? I think not. :)
