The city of Berkeley made an official statement on abortion Wednesday by sending coat hangers a symbol of illegal abortions to 20 Democrats in the U.S. House of Representatives who voted to restrict federal funding for abortions in the health care bill.
Councilmember Kriss Worthington, who co-sponsored the item before the City Council on Tuesday night with Susan Wengraf and Linda Maio, put the coat hangers and an official city letter in the mail Wednesday.
"The coat hanger represents the time when women had to have abortions in back alleys and tried to self-abort," Wengraf said. "My initial take was this is too extreme. But women's reproductive health is very important to me.
"I don't want my granddaughter to go through what my grandmothers had to. I don't want it compromised. I don't think the health care bill is reform if it excludes access to women's reproductive health care."
The City Council voted 8-1, with Mayor Tom Bates absent, to send the hangers and the letter. Councilmember Gordon Wozniak voted no.
"I think the coat hanger is an inappropriate symbol, and it could backfire on us," Wozniak said.

How would lack of Federal funds limit access to abortions? We have more abortions now than we ever have had without using taxpayer money to pay for them..
These people are so dishonest it's sick...

women's reproductive health care."
ABORTION is "reproductive Health CARE?" What about the unborn? No rights for the unborn?
We need to petition our Conservative Congress people to repeal "personhood" to corporations and to include personhood for the unborn.

So she admits her grandparents were prostitutes? Or "women of the evening?" Or pond scum?

Well what we should do is send them some condoms and birth control then they won't have to use coat hangers..Is it to much trouble to put a pill in your mouth and swallow..or put a rain coat on so you don't get wet..I guess they love nothing better than to murder a little baby..Not on my dollar you immoral pimps..

They should send boxes of crushed and rotting sea turtle eggs...same concept different species. Oh wait! They probably wouldn’t do that because they feel sea turtle life is far more valuable than human life. Ironic...no, sick!

Sound like a great line of tramps in this family.
Try some morals for a change!

More proof of Berkeley stupidity.
Self-induced abortions with a coat hanger were done because back then there was a severe stigma attached to being pregnant and not married. Women would go to great lengths to hide their pregnancy.
Today it is practically a badge of honor. Girls to go school pregnant. Girls get money from the state for popping out kids on a regular basis. Girls today would no more self-abort due to shame then they would poke their eye out.
Today’s pro-aborts are for abortion because being pregnant is an inconvenience. And to deny them government money to practice their method of birth control (abortion) is akin to violating their civil rights.

What’s even more pukey about this is that these people are all for late term / partial birth abortion. So, when you get down to it, why should they have a problem with abortion via coat hanger? Is that somehow more brutal than dismembering a baby just before birth and pulling out the pieces?
What kind of moral equivalency is that?
What’s the cheapest commodity in the world to a liberal? Human life.

No, what I think she's trying to say is that her mom or dad was a failed abortion???? Hard to understand these college educated folk these days.

This is an older unborn.
THIS is my favorite. Mom must have had a very happy pregnancy to have a baby smiling in utero.
