Amy Goodman’s “Canadian Bacon” Moment
David Horowitz's NewsRealblog ^ | 10 December, 2009 | Karen Northon

Posted on 12/10/2009 6:44:33 AM PST by Michael van der Galien

A recent headline in the British Columbian newspaper The Globe and Mail reads “Amy Goodman’s Border Woes Have Americans in a Tizzy.” Really? Because this is the first I’ve heard of it.

Don’t know who Amy Goodman is? You’re not alone. As host of the television/radio program Democracy Now! (undoubtedly the most ironic misnomer in the history of news media), her activist-style “journalism” has kept her operating on the periphery of mainstream media.

Fact is, a quick Google news search shows that the only U.S. news outlets to report on her “ordeal” have been, well, Amy Goodman for Democracy Now! and her left-wing-nut-job soul mate Keith Olbermann for his show on MSNBC.

Apparently, Amy Goodman was held and questioned at the U.S.-Canada border for 90 minutes, during which “Canadian border guards demanded to know her views on the Olympics.”

I would be outraged – if the whole damn ordeal wasn’t so laughable. Just say this to yourself, or out loud – “Canadian border agents interrogate journalist Amy Goodman for a grueling 90 minutes about her views on the Olympics.”

Good grief, where to start? Let me begin by making it clear that I DO NOT find it acceptable for border agents ANYWHERE in the world to detain ANY journalist unless the journalist in question is also suspected of participating in an illegal activity – say, running drugs across the border. Without question, the situation should be addressed with the Canadian government.

That said…

Poor Amy – interrogated by Canadians about the Olympics! It must have been horrifying. No doubt the tea they served her during questioning was only luke warm. I honestly cannot stop laughing. (I’m sorry, Amy. I don’t mean to diminish the gravity of your ordeal. Okay – maybe I do.)

This sounds like an episode of That 70s Show.

Just more for this whiner to complain about; obviously, Canadian mounties Dudley Do-right and Sgt. Preston have rather parochial views on the matter.

She must have a pretty stupid audience to believe that happened.

Amy is a typical limousine liberal. Voicing the thoughts of the overworked/underpaid union work unit. However, she makes almost $500,000 with pacifica radio and nearly 1 million a year with democracy now. An organization funded with private donations, endowments, and your tax dollars.

The name of her show is rightly “Hypocrisy Now”. I’ve listened to it here in Houston on KPFT.

RE: “Hypocrisy Now”

Amy Goodman is one of the reasons I sometimes call public radio telethons and tell ‘em I won’t give money to liberals who seem to occasionally hate me. Heard her baritone-zombie monotone on public FM a few times, years ago, and have seen her up past the weather channel on satellite television. She’s had some voice and speech lessons, I’d guess, but not much cosmetic work. She looks kinda like she used to sound.

Amy Goodman is a hack. I listen to her show now and then. Its a parade of know-nothing professors and “activists” whining about everything under the sun. She’s never met a terrorist organization for whom she could not find sympathy, or a problem in this world that should could not trace to the U.S. or Israel. She dislikes Obama because he’s too liberal, and the only troops she won’t spit on are the ones who are “objectors”.

And, to top it off, every six weeks or so, she dedicates her show to begging for money from her dead-broke and generally useless listeners. They can’t sell advertsing or find sponsorship, so she sells $2000 “no-expense-paid” trips to watch her tape her ridiculous show.

So do I. I wonder how many of KPFT’s “listeners” are conservatives that find their shows amusing in a twisted kind-of way. I’d bet the percentage is rather high.

That should’ve said “she dislikes Obama because he’s too conservative”, not “too liberal”. Oops.

Border Guard: "What is your favorite Olympic Sport? Mine's Curling."

Amy: "Curling is not a sport."

It went downhill fast after that.

The horror; I'd better be prepared the next time I go up there; they may ask me at length about the Toronto Blue Jays' playoff chances.

Bob and Doug McKenzie do The 12 Days of Christmas...plus a bit of the new Canadian TV cartoon series. For those unfamiliar (maybe too young...), Second City TV (70s/80s) was produced in Canada and had to kowtow to a regulation about having Canadian content. Regulars Dave Thomas (not the Wendy’s guy) and Rick Moranis (before he “shrunk the kids”) said, “What, do you want to have 2 minutes of guys drinking beer, wearing toques, and
frying backbacon?” Thus the idea.

The regular sketches got good response and soon there was an album, Great White North, which featured the hit single Take Off! (feat. Geddy Lee of Rush) and this version of “12 Days of Christmas”. On the album version there’s a bit more dialogue at the end (”Now, that was a beauty. It...it MOVED me.” “Yeah, I think it’s right up there with...Stairway to
Heaven.”) There also was a movie, Strange Brew.

Sometimes it's nice to know what kind of propaganda the other side is putting out. "Hypocrisy Now" seems to follow Hitler's "big lie" format. While some of her stuff is merely twisted, some is whole cloth.

"Strange Brew" is one of the greatest bad movies of all time, eh.

Take off, hoser!

I had their cassette, and their song with Geddy Lee is seared, SEARED into my mind:

"Take off, to the Great White North, take off, it's a beauty way to go....

There was actually one funny scene in Canadian Bacon, where the truck that had “Canada Sucks” got pulled over, because it wasn’t also written in French. I’ll give Michael Moore a few points for that.
