The Labor Department says initial claims for unemployment insurance rose by 17,000 to a seasonally adjusted 474,000. That was above analysts' expectations of 460,000.

A Labor Department analyst says claims were partly inflated by a surge following the Thanksgiving holiday week, when many state unemployment offices were closed.

They always claim ‘more than expected’ to blunt the force of the worsening news. The lies from this Administration ( and I am including Big Media in this Administration) are getting near the tipping point. Soon even Democrats will have to realize the magnitude of the lying.

That was offset because it was deflated by the offices being closed that week. It's a wash -- they are spinning madly.

Rush will be patting himself on the back for calling this one right.

Of course they are going up, and yes, people are running out of benefits now too, which is helping their fake figures also.

This idiot in the Whitehouse KNOWS what will work to bring the jobs roaring back, but he refuses to do it for ideological reasons. Conservatives need to point this fact out every chance they gt in front of a TV camera.

we all knew the T-day week report was bogus and would be revised; or in this case averaged-out into oblivion.

I like the economic analysis at http://www.shadowstats.com/ ... good work there, plus there is something to be said for getting it done “old school”

The company I’m sub-contracted to (used to be my company until my job was outsourced) is having a roof replaced on one of their acre sized buildings. As far as I can tell (and with the concurrence of my Hispanic colleagues) the entire workforce of roofers except for the Foremen are illegals.

I guess these are jobs Americans just don’t want to do.

Also from Politico: Dems to lift debt ceiling by $1.8 trillion, fear 2010 backlash

If we had a majority of sane people in charge, they would at least back away from TARP-Funds-for-stimulus-slush-fund, Obamacare, and Crap and Trade, but maybe they think their only chance in 2010 is to bet all their chips on what they have been doing. Unfortunately, "their chips" are really our chips.

I personally know 12 people out of work for the last 4 months...I believe the panic button is being pushed in many of those households. People with Master’s degrees working as cashiers at Macy’s and could only land a Seasonal job. They aren’t being picky either. A few have been offered jobs in their field but it would require picking the family up and moving to another state (moving costs would be $10,000.00 alone), taking kids out of schools that they have been in for 10 years, and moving away from friends and relatives. Then you have the back and forth interview process that goes on with 3 or 4 different interviews scheduled every 2 or 3 weeks. All the while collecting unemployment that will run out.

Not one f-cking job created by Obama in year one. A total fraud. 2010 is going to be a blood bath my good people. Meanwhile we have the jerk off in chief sitting in Copenhagen patting himself on the back and people more concerned with fiction science and global warming than actually surviving.

I see what his agenda is. Get through all of his Marxist agenda goals first, destroy the U.S. economy, and then it will be hand to mouth even steven from here on out.

Wait a cottin pickin minute.

Didn't The Messiah say, just two days ago, that the unemployment rate had gotten better and we now were recovering from that bad, bad Bush economy?

Surely he would not mislead his subjects!

Meh. With TIITWH (the idiot in the White House) all we get is crickets. LOUD crickets. Can’t help but wonder what the breaking point will be when they finally cut him loose?? Or will they continue to circle the wagons until they’re all full of arrows???
