As the Climate-gate controversy continues to grow, amid charges of hiding and manipulating data, and suppressing research by academics who challenge global warming, there is one oft-repeated defense: other independent data-sets all reach the same conclusions. "I think everybody is clear on the science. I think scientists are clear on the science ... I think that this notion that there's some debate . . . on the science is kind of silly," said President Obama's Press Secretary, Robert Gibbs, when asked about the president's response to the controversy on Monday. Despite the scandal, Britain's Met, the UKs National Weather Service, claims: "we remain completely confident in the data. The three independent data sets show a strong correlation is highlighting an increase in global temperatures."
But things are not so clear. It is not just the University of East Anglia data that is at question. There are about 450 academic peer-reviewed journal articles questioning the importance of man-made global warming. The sheer number of scientists rallying against a major intervention to stop carbon dioxide is remarkable. In a petition, more than 30,000 American scientists are urging the U.S. government to reject the Kyoto treaty. Thus, there is hardly the unanimity among scientists about global warming or mankind's role in producing it. But even for the sake of argument, assuming that there is significant man-made global warming, many academics argue that higher temperatures are actually good. Higher temperatures increase the amount of land to grow food, increase biological diversity, and improve people's health. Increased carbon dioxide also promotes plant growth.

I wure wish an article like this would appear in the Washington Post.

We the undersigned, being qualified in climate-related scientific disciplines, challenge the UNFCCC and supporters of the United Nations Climate Change Conference to produce convincing OBSERVATIONAL EVIDENCE for their claims of dangerous human-caused global warming and other changes in climate
Bump for later reading.
Of course, the different data sets that agree are actually not independent.
Yes their is. They are all operating from the same 'cooked' data. That is exactly why the leaked e-mails from UAE showed that they resisted FOI requests for their records, and even stated they would destroy the records before they released them, and exactly why the Hansen mafia at Goddard has stonewalled FOI requests for their data for over two years --(it's turning into a formal lawsuit now.)
I have no doubt that the fanatic Hansen will resist to the bitter end on letting others see what he has done. The guy is a mentally unstable individual person with a Messiah complex.
Also check the UAB-Huntsville record. They have absolutely no problem with releasing every bit of data and code they have, and their output shows no warming. If you are honest, you have nothing to hide. If you are cooking the books, you don't want outsiders looking at them. It's that simple. It does not take a big group to pull this off -- only a small group who hold the right positions.
It does not take a cast of thousands to pull off a major fraud. All it takes is a handful of corrupt individuals who capture the affection of the ignorant political class and the ever compliant media always looking for sensational scare stories.
