OKLAHOMA CITY Over 50 percent of 14-24 year olds have experienced some form of digital abuse, and 3 in 10 have sent or received nude pictures through text messages, said state Rep. Anastasia A. Pittman, who plans to file legislation next session to address Oklahoma s problem with sexting.
Sexting is the sharing of sexually explicit photos, videos and chat by cell phone. More than a quarter of young people have been involved in sexting in some form, an Associated Press-MTV poll found.
Pittman said the problem has hit home and has now become a serious problem in our own state and parents need to be aware. Currently, Oklahoma has no laws specific to sexting; however the act of sexting breaks numerous other laws.
Sexting is becoming surprisingly common among Oklahoma teens. We need to educate not only the kids about the risks and liabilities involved but the parents. Parents, dont be afraid to ask your kids about this this is a crucial issue on the rise in our state, said Pittman, D-Oklahoma City . Sexting seems to be the newest craze for teenagers, and it is a very dangerous craze that could lead to numerous consequences.

Pity, Ive never been sext...
I’ve only ever recieved ONE obscene phone call in my whole life, and it was a lesbian (I’m a straight woman). It was decades ago and I still giggle about it.
Text messaging is something I will never experience.......totally not interested in it.
What’s interesting is that a young girl can, under child porn laws, make her entire class into registrable sex-offenders through no fault of their own!!
Now _THAT’S_ Justice! [/sarc]
Ive only ever recieved ONE obscene phone call in my whole life...
Might be quite titillating, I keep reading the missed connection thing on Craigslist but alas, nobody misses me LOL!!
“Digital abuse”? I can think of some things that term might have been applied to when I was younger.
Hardly no fault of their own.
>>through no fault of their own!!

Wrong. How difficult would it be for a “practical joke” of someone working on a class-project (ie with everyone in the class’s number) to decide to pop a sexting pic to everyone?
You’re telling me that EVERYONE in that class would/MUST have some fault?
Well if they have only received something, that would be a different, but of course since the death of common sense, I guess I can see how an innocent could be sent illegal porn. Knowing how schools react to the mere presence of a picture of a gun, I guess I would have to concede on this one.
Personally, I believe NO cellphones or other electronic gadgetry even should be allowed in schools....there’s no reason to have personal phones or electronic devices in classrooms, where distractions are plentiful as it is.
