Officials are in the early stages of deciding if Salt Lake City wants to compete for the 2012 Republican National Convention so early, in fact, that they have not yet formed a bid committee to decide.
Salt Lake City was invited by the Republican National Committee to attend an "interested parties" presentation in Washington, D.C., three weeks ago, said Scott Beck, president and chief executive officer of the Salt Lake Convention & Visitors Bureau.
Beck attended, along with a representative from the governor's office. There, they learned what requirements in terms of amenities a host city would have to have in order to land the convention and were given the official request for proposal. They concluded Salt Lake City could do it, but no decision about applying has been made, Beck said.
"We absolutely have the physical capacity, and having hosted the Olympics makes us a very, very viable city," he said.

Nope. That has the visceral stench of a Slick Willard coronation, and the death of the Republican Party. I prefer Anchorage, Alaska, closer to the hometown of our ONLY credible nominee, Sarah Palin.

AMEN!
Although mostly female, the number of MittFools that claim to be “conservative” is stunning.

Well, I could shove a cucumber up my ass and call myself a vegetable, but it doesn’t make it so.

Well then quit whining and leave. Beat it. Go.
The people of Utah don't get to vote at the convention.
If the nominee is Palin there is no better state to start her campaign in. Utah is Reagan country. 73% in '80. The best in the Union. Good huh? Well they even beat that in '84. They'll give her a send off you could hear in Alaska.
In '78 the nascent Reagan campaign was Mormon. Mormons everywhere. I remember that that there were only two western states that we had any concern about. One was New Mexico and the other was either Washington or Oregon. One of our group suggested sending in the Mormons. Another's eyes got wide and and he said "Sh!t. Why would you do that to them. That was the degree of Mormon enthusiasm for Reagan.
Most Republicans that I talk to expect Romney to be the nominee. That does not mean that they are necessarily supporters. I am absolutely certain that Utah will support Romney in the primaries but if Palin is the nominee they'll transfer allegence on a dime.
Utah is a rising star in the Republican galaxy. Expect to hear more from them in the future.
