Even if the Senate bill makes it out, it will be harder to reconcile with the House bill and Stupak’s amendment. The bishops and pro-life movement will help us. The bill might die at this stage.

I agree. Let us not forget that if it were not for the Stupak amendment's addition to the house bill, it may not have passed there. It certainly gave the blue dogs a little cover. Now the senate has none.

While I certainly do not support tax dollars going toward abortion in any way shape or form, this may be God's hand working in a very bizarre way. Now we have those dems who said that they will never support a bill that funds abortion backed into a corner. And we will have a few more that will not support a bill with a PO or without a PO one way or the other. I am praying that this kills the bill instead of babies.

Bayh and Lugar both voteed Nay ...

In one of my (many) e-mails to Bayh I tossed out a comment that at teh restaurant Sunday, all people were talking about was the health care train wreck ahead. Not even the basketball game or Charlie Weiss getting canned.

Maybe umpteen similar e-mails from like-minded constituents helped convince him.

Or not. Who knows.

I’ve always been told that a blue dog Democrat was a southerner who would vote for a “blue dog” before they voted against a democrat (therefore, never vote for anyone but.) My husband’s sweet g-ma was a blue dog, conservative, but would never vote for an “R.” In her mind, they were the carpetbaggers and scalawags — party of Abe Lincoln.

“Well, does that mean that Nelson will vote “no” on the floor?”

Nelson said he would filibuster if his bill wasn’t passed. He must be held accountable.

And Bob Casey also claims to be prolife, so should also be held accountable.

If these two Dem senators who claim to be prolife don’t vote against the bill, prolifers in their states should vote them out! Before their election days, call a talk show that airs in their state to remind prolifers what they did (or did not do), and if you live in their state write a letter to the editor.

What say you, Connecticut FReepers?

Lieberman had better grow a pair. You lose Snowe (ME) and Collins (ME) to the abortion thing, made up by defection of Casey(PA) and Nelson (NE). It's a wash on this one issue.

On Gov't option all R's line up and Lieberman (I) is a tepid "No" -- largely due to the insurance industry.

This comes to the point of Reid's needing 60 to cut off debate. R's filibuster will be joined by all R's at least 2 Dems and one Ind -- and all for their pet reasons.

There may be other issues that work to cause other Dems to uphold filibuster that are not yet as obvious -- it may just come down to other Landrieu (LA) style "political prostitution" payoffs, but with the outrage over what Reid did to get Landireu's vote to get 60 to proceed to debate, the spectre of corruption and pay off will be so obvious that it will be a check he can't cash without it "bouncing" in the public eye first!

I've told Lieberman many times what to do -- thanked him when he did what I told him to do, and upbraided him when he didn't.

Let's continue to cultivate his distrust of Reid.

I would trust Lieberman more than the 2 senators from Maine (for whatever that is worth).

He’s probably sitting cold sober with Ded Kennedy (D-HELL) waiting for their concubine Helen Thomas to arrive...

Good. I don’t want an amendment in there that will make this monstrosity in any way palatable.

I do not believe or trust Lieberman, either. He’s nothing but another lying Democrat.

If he mattered this would never have come to the floor, he voted to debate the bill knowing it would require 60 votes to amend it, therefore he voted for the whole bill already.

I’m as pro life as it gets, but I would have voted against the amendment. The only reason obamacare passed the house was because of the Stupak amendment. Pelosi played the pro lifers like a violin, using them to get the cover she needed to pass the bill

Even if the Nelson amendment passed, it would be taken out in conference, the same way Stupak will. The most prolife vote in this instance is to vote against the amendment and take Obamacare down in the process (IMHO)

This may be good news -

This issue is a diversion folks, it is going to pass, then nothing matters except what comes out of the joint committee. After the whole bill is changed it will require 51 votes, to pass and that is a slam dunk.

Democrat plan for young: “Give me your head, I want to stick this syringe in it”.

Democrat plan for the elderly: “This won’t hurt...you’ll just go to sleep”.

Those fun-loving DeathDemocrats are such a laugh riot.

I’m with you. I’m also as pro-life as it gets, but there’s no way I would have given cover to Ben Nelson or the others.
This bill is entorely democrat. It lives or dies with them.

In fact, I posted somewhere on this thread, that had the House Republicans followed Shaddeg’s lead by voting PRESENT on the Stupak amendment, the bill would have died in the House, provided the saintly blue dogs would have voted with Stupak.

We aren’t called the stupid for nothing.
