You’re right it could be good news but I doubt it. These bastards will pass this pile of crap one way or another. They’ll just continue to buy off more until they have the required votes.

No, you wanted this to pass. Then the kook left fringe would start sniping at the bill from the other side. The moderates would have been on an island.

"Very interesting."

I bet she left out the part where she exited the building holding fist-fulls of cash.

Sure. This will allow the blue dogs to say no, but will allow the liberal Dems to say we tried.

"Motion to Table" passed 54-45. No opportunity to filibuster a motion to table, as it is not debatable.

DEMs who opposed tabling were Bayh, Casey, Conrad, Dorgan, Kaufman, Nelson (NE), and Pryor.

Landreau, Lincoln and Baucus support abortion in the bill? Am I reading this correctly?

Abortion is the crown jewel of the democrats. Satan has them by the gonads and will take care of them in HELL which will last for an eternity. Does any one feel sorry for them, I don’t, they deserve it!!

It looks as though some Dakotans and Arkansans have been workign the phones. Bayh’s father was unabashedly pro-abortion but lost. It looks as thought the son has learned not to take chances.

Reid is going to lose his job over this so the payoff he’s been promised must be rather generous indeed.

They tabled the amendment. Senator Nelson gets political cover and the bill goes on.

Public Option AND Free abortions on demand. If this doesn’t sink it, nothing will.

-- Landreau, Lincoln and Baucus support abortion in the bill? --

They all voted to table Nelson Amdt. No. 2962, the crux of which is:

(b) Limitation on Abortion Funding.--

(1) IN GENERAL.--No funds authorized or appropriated by this Act (or an amendment made by this Act) may be used to pay for any abortion or to cover any part of the costs of any health plan that includes coverage of abortion, except in the case where a woman suffers from a physical disorder, physical injury, or physical illness that would, as certified by a physician, place the woman in danger of death unless an abortion is performed, including a life-endangering physical condition caused by or arising from the pregnancy itself, or unless the pregnancy is the result of an act of rape or incest.

Funny thing is, they could have all voted to NOT table the amendment, and the amendment still would have been killed (on a 51-48 vote). I expect Landrieu will make a speech wherein she explains "confusion," that she thought she was voting to pass the amendment, not table it.

I believe (and am afraid) you're right with respect to Snowe and Collins, but I'm not so sure about Lieberman

All three voted yea so I wouldn't put too much faith in what Lieberman threatens.
