Within 2 years of having sex for the first time, half of teenage girls may be infected with at least one of three common sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), according to results of a new study. Often, those girls are infected by the age of 15.
Researchers followed 386 urban adolescent girls aged 14 to 17 for up to 8 years. Within 2 years of becoming sexually active, half of the girls were infected with at least one of three common sexually transmitted organisms: Chlamydia trachomatis, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, or Trichomonas vaginalis the organisms that cause chlamydia, gonorrhea and trichomoniasis, respectively.
The researchers found that a quarter of the women had acquired their first STD by age 15, most often Chlamydia.

The parents are more responsible than MTV is.
Funny how the easy acceptance of frequent sex as a cultural norm can have such a result without any questioning of that norm.
MTV? You mean parents? Right or how about the individual responsible for their own body.
The parents are more irresponsible than MTV is.
I wonder what percentage it will be when all treatments for STDs (including the letist’s most feared STD: pregnancy) are paid for by the taxpayers?
Tabloid nonsense.
Fighting the world is a tough thing for most people. The constant barrage promoting promiscuity is overwhelming for many parents. Even those with the support of a church can have a tough time.
trichomoniasis
I thought that you got that by eating undercooked wild Boar????
That’s why there is no unscreened media that comes into my house. It is MY responsibility to know (and control) what is influencing my children.
Yes, libs hate people like me.

This reader would like a further breakdown as to just what an “urban adolescent” might be?
>>Researchers followed 386 urban adolescent girls aged 14 to 17 for up to 8 years
Shouldn’t that be “half of all URBAN girls” then?
That number is much lower than reality. It’s probably much closer to 70-80%+
Many boys and girls never seek treatment for Chlamydia, as it doesn’t always cause acute signs and symptoms that “scare” this age group into treatment. The disease, in both sexes, can be so mild, that it often goes undetected. And today, many males are using their new-found STD as a right of passage, and something to brag about, and this is the doorway for young newly sexually active girls to get infected.

I wonder how many of the girls with STDs have tramp stamps??
You are correct. As the mother of a 6 yr old and a 9 yr old, I can attest to how difficult it is to keep the world at bay. From the clothing industry that wants to sexualize my daughter by writing “Juicy” across her bottom to not being able to watch children’s movies like the Wizard of Oz on TBS because of the rampant sex on the commercials. It’s awful. AWFUL. It’s a full-time job. MTV, I should add, is blocked at my house. But what am I going to do when other blockhead parents don’t block it at theirs? UGH!
“Thats why there is no unscreened media that comes into my house. It is MY responsibility to know (and control) what is influencing my children.”
That’s a good step, however you cannot expect children to not be effected by all the garbage out there. Society should not allow this stuff in the public square.
Whats sad is the libs admire the muslims for their morals but condemn Christians for intolerance.
And the other half?..........they are using protection?
At 5, they already come tell me, or discuss with me, when they see something they understand to be inappropriate according to the teaching they’ve received.
