Thousands participated Tuesday in a procession to the memorial for four murdered Washington state police officers, which about 20,000 mourners were expected to attend.
Pierce County officials said 2,000 police and fire vehicles from more than 150 agencies joined the procession to the Tacoma Dome service for the victims of a coffee shop shooting.
Vehicles left McChord Air Force Base at 10 a.m. Tuesday on a route past the Lakewood Police Department to be joined by Lakewood police and families of the murdered Lakewood officers.
Maurice Clemmons who gunned down Sgt. Mark Renninger, 39, Ronald Owens, 37, Tina Griswold, 40, and Greg Richards, 42 was killed Dec. 2 in a shootout with a Seattle police officer after a two-day manhunt.
The procession route takes participants under a large American flag hanging from arching fire truck ladders. Officials estimated most of the 20,000 people in the Tacoma Dome for the 1 p.m. PST service would be officers.

Thanks for the post.
Bet Huck won’t make it.
Ping!
This is a tragic situation and I too mourn the loss of these assassinated police officers. But Washington State has an $8 billion deficit. What the heck is this costing?
I wish now I would of pulled my 8 year old son out of school today and gone down to Tacoma to see this. A life’s lesson about what Police mean to us in just a couple of hours out of his school day.
Do you honestly think that that deficit will go away by denying these officers a proper funeral from their peers?
I’m sure Governor Gregoire will figure it out.
Maybe Obama can send us some money out of his “stash”.
Or maybe Arkansas can chip in; after all, they share some blame here.
I just got back home from watching the processional. We had to leave after an hour and 10 minutes because my daughter had to go the bathroom, but there were well over 1000 police vehicles and fire trucks, and it was still going strong when we left.
I saw police vehicles from Alaska, British Columbia, Idaho, Oregon, California, Wyoming, Montana, Colorado, Minnesota, and of course Washington. I’m sure there were other states that I missed as well.
I don't think so.
What the heck is this costing?
It cost FOUR PRECIOUS LIVES, not to mention the ruined lives of loved ones who miss them.
Canada sent a quarter of their 15,000 Mounties. Been watcing on tv just unbelievable.
I wonder if Huck will go and tell them he’d make the same decision today.
I wonder if Huck will go and tell them he’d make the same decision today.
And if you're really concerned about saving money, join with the rest of us for more death sentences for lowlifes - no reason to feed, house and cloth these sub-human pieces of sh-t...
I watched it, too. I came home when it stopped due to a traffic back-up. I am a Lakewood girl; it was humbling. Heard there were over 3,000 vehicles- they just kept coming.
There is already video of this:
