With President Barack Obama's decision to escalate the war in Afghanistan by sending 30,000 additional troops to battle Al-Qaeda and the Taliban, he has put his imprint on the war on terror, and at the same time, given up the Democrats' most famous fallback position: blame George W. Bush.
Couple that with the economy and we are seeing the end of the president's first year in office coincide with him having to accept the full responsibility for the condition of the country.
Obama rode into office on the "blame Bush" tidal wave as the nation sickened of everything he touched. The economy? Bush was horrible at stewarding it. Giving banks billions in TARP funds? Dumb idea by Bush and Treasury Secretary Hank "Mr. Wall Street" Paulson. Sick of billions going to the war? It was all the fault of Bush and his chief crony, Vice President Dick Cheney.
The blame Bush mantra proved effective because it totally silenced Republicans, who were loathe to defend a conservative president who began with a surplus and ended with a deficit, as well as the architect of a war in Iraq based on never-proven claims of weapons of mass destruction. They couldn't even muster the strength to call him a conservative.

Yes I do. National debt includes entitlement programs the are ever expanding on their own. It's hard to credit or discredit Bush for SS, Medicare, and Medicaid.
"I guess expanding government is fine with you if your side is the one doing it."
I never said that so don't assume it, okay! I asked you if you understodd the national debt and how much of that Bush contributed to. Bush spent about $1.8 trillion in budget deficit in his 8 years. Obama spent $1.4 trillion his first year. Big difference. The last Republican Congress budget was fiscal 2007 which only had a $160 billion dollar deficit and the trend was decreasing.
You're really grasping at straws and numbers when discussing the budget.
“Yes I do. National debt includes entitlement programs the are ever expanding on their own. It’s hard to credit or discredit Bush for SS, Medicare, and Medicaid.”
He fought harder for amnesty than SS reform and he EXPANDED Medicare! So, yes.. I can discredit Bush for it.
“Bush spent about $1.8 trillion in budget deficit in his 8 years. Obama spent $1.4 trillion his first year. Big difference. “
Yes, but the defense that “the other guy did the evil thing worse” is a fallacy. A not-small chunk of this year’s deficit is the TARP that Bush signed and Obambi voted for.
“You’re really grasping at straws and numbers when discussing the budget.”
Nope. We had deficit spending every year of the Bush Administration. So, we NEVER had greater revenue than outlays.
I was saying that your numbers for revenue and the budget have been wild guesses. You know that's right. And 2001 under Bush was a budget surplus, FYI.
“I was saying that your numbers for revenue and the budget have been wild guesses. You know that’s right. And 2001 under Bush was a budget surplus, FYI.”
Clinton claimed a “surplus” too. Didn’t actually happen. The “surplus” was generated by borrowing from Social Security.
“We’re discussing money not amnesty. Stay focused. And I was not happy about TARP either. But two wars, a recession, Katrina, Rita... and only $1.8 trillion in 8 years is not good but it is not the horror you are making it out to be. That horror is happening right now with Obama at over $1 trillion budget deficit per year along with intergovernmental debt expanding rapidly.”
$4 trillion added to the federal debt in that time period. You need to understand that saying the other guy is worse is NOT A DEFENSE!
You truly do not understand the budget nor deficits or a surplus. A surplus or deficit in regards to a budget is simply the difference in receipts and outlays. There was a budget surplus from 1998 - 2001.
We've covered all that I care to cover. Don't feel like being a teacher today. Have a good day.
Not my day to be a teacher. Have a good day.
“You truly do not understand the budget nor deficits or a surplus. A surplus or deficit in regards to a budget is simply the difference in receipts and outlays. There was a budget surplus from 1998 - 2001.”
No, there was not. There was an increase in intergovernmental debt during that period. The “surplus” was money loaned from Social Security through the purchase of Treasury securities. A shell game driven by increased payroll taxes. You know, the fact that there was no surplus was used by the Bush campaign against Gore. Funny you use the idea he ran against to defend him.
“We’ve covered all that I care to cover. Don’t feel like being a teacher today. Have a good day.”
If you presume to lecture, make sure you are actually correct. You have a good day too.
“Not my day to be a teacher. Have a good day.”
Not your subject to be a teacher.
Look, you have proven over and over that you are 100% CLUELESS as to what a budget deficit or budget surplus is. You confuse it with overall natioanl debt. The budget debt is a SUBSET of the national debt. Get a clue.
It’s definitely my subject. But definitely not yours, that’s for sure.
Now, perhaps you can explain to me just WHERE the Constitution for the United States grants FedGov the authority to meddle, in any way, shape or form, in the health care marketplace. I just can’t seem to find it. And, you know, that pesky ol’ Tenth Amendment, you remember that one, don’t you? That pesky ol’ thing says that if authority isn’t specifically GRANTED to the Feddies to do something, why they just plain DON’T HAVE IT. How hard is THAT to understand? Yet you heap praises on Bush, Jr., for incorporating “free market principles” into a SOCIALIST mishmash of garbage and expect to get away with it??????
You MUST be out of your mind.
The same holds true for “No Child Left Behind.” There is ZERO, ZILCH, NADA, NO authority anywhere granted to fedgov to meddle in education. WHY would you think NCLB a GOOD thing?
Next, where does the Constitution say it’s OUR job to free the Iraqis (or anyone else)?
(Hint: NONE of the things you cite, not a single one of them, is authorized by the Constitution, period. Bush was and is a globalist, a socialist who travels the same road as Obambi, just at a slower, more folksy pace. Unless you are also a socialist and a globalist, you were SERIOUSLY duped.)
“Look, you have proven over and over that you are 100% CLUELESS as to what a budget deficit or budget surplus is. “
I’m not confusing debt and deficit. You are confusing borrowing money on future taxes to cover deficits with surpluses. You are making the argument Gore made in 2000.
“Get a clue.”
You first.
“Its definitely my subject. But definitely not yours, thats for sure.”
Oh, that’s funny.
When you learn the difference between national debt and a budget deficit get back to me.
No bias here, move along.
