Actually, the Germans
did rock the boat...in 1933. There are strong and disturbing parallels between the dissipated and turbulent Weimar Republic and the USA of 2009. The Germans eventually had enough and opted en masse for "hope and change". But an angry mob is rarely rational, and in 1933 it chose a grossly unfit leader. By the time they realized that their "savior" was nothing of the sort it was too late to do anything about it.
We should likewise be wise as serpents. As much as I want this present darkness to pass away, I don't want to replace it with something worse.
