Let 'em play and find out. Like Alabama or Oklahoma did.
If I’ve read this article correctly, the author claims both TCU and Boise State were ripped off yet the only proposal he makes for resolving that issue would be to the benefit of TCU (having them play Cincy or Florida instead of Boise). So in his scenario the winner of the Texas/Alabama game and TCU if it beat Cincy/Florida could be co-champions. Then no matter what team Boise beat, they still couldn’t finish on top. So his whining is a bit disingenuous.
So have a 16-team playoff. Or whatever size is required to at least give a slot to every undefeated Divison I team in existence.
Speaking of basketball, here’s another one of my great ideas.
Who cares about the NIT, right? I mean all it proves is that the winner was the best team that didn’t make the tournament.
But what if the NCAA Regional runner-ups dropped into the final eight of the NIT? Now the winner can claim to be the best team that didn’t make the Final Four.
I’ve seen TCU play a couple of times this season, and i think they are capable of beating any team in the country.
Once again the BCS comes up one game short- the winner of the Fiesta should play the winner of Bama-Texas for all the marbles.
They were. The NCAA really screwed them with the death penalty back in the 80’s. Before that, they were awesome with the likes of Eric Dickerson, Craig James, etc..
Don't forget Colorado College & University of Denver. Went to one of their games over the weekend. As far as a spectator sport, and this is high quality hockey, it far surpasses football ... and I'm speaking as a long time NFL season ticket holder. Football, in contrast to hockey, with all the various time outs, including TV advertising time outs ... interrupts the flow of the game. Not so hockey which is fast paced, & pretty much non stop action.
Next year we'll get into the scenario when the BCS school won't put TCU on their schedule to even give them an opportunity. At least Bowden would play MIA, FL, when both were powerhouse schools out of his conference.
Boise sets their own schedule. Maybe if they didn’t schedule creampuffs in order to post an undefeated record I’d not laugh at your comment.
But we'll never know cause the BCS sucks. It really does, it's a vote for pete's sake.
Not a dumb question, but the fact is that TCU tried to get into a major conference. Ann Richards used her clout as governor to get Baylor into the Big 12 and oust TCU. Also, the major conferences try to maintain a balance of quality teams and doormats. The doormats don't mind, cause they get to split the Bowl money. The big guys like it, cause it gives them a break on the schedule.
When the old SWC broke up, Arkansas went to the SEC (still think that was a bad move on their part,) Texas, A&M, Tech, and Baylor went to the Big 8, creating the Big 12, and TCU, Houston, SMU and Rice started looking for other affiliations. Houston and TCU couldn't draw a crowd, SMU was coming off the death penalty for their football program, and Rice was never a football factory. So, they got what they could. TCU does not like being in the WAC, not only because of the lower status, but because they have to travel much further to play conference games than they would if they were in the Big 12 South. I can't speak to Boise State.
At 16 teams you'd be looking at a four-week postseason for NCAA football. I think this is one thing that will always cause the NCAA to shy away from a playoff field that large.
Man, you’re full of intriguing ideas today. LOL!
FSU and Miami for most of Bowden's tenure were not even in a conference, and towards the end were in the same conference.
It's a little different than UF's situation. The SEC added a conference game, so something had to give....and it had to be Miami.
I wonder if UF got Cincinnati solely on the fact that UC is Urban Meyer’s Alma Mater?
I gradually lost a lot of interest in football once I became a hockey fan.
Anyone who has never seen a hockey fan in person should go see one. It is far better in person than on television, and it really puts all other major U.S. sports to shame.
I once read somewhere that the typical NFL game has 11-14 minutes of live action in a 3-3.5 hour television window. That's an 'effing disgrace. LOL.
Utah beat Alabama easier than Florida did last year...TCU just crushed Utah this year....
You’re right about Cincy, although they barely squeaked by Pitt, just as UT barely squeaked by Nebraska.
A win’s a win of course, though neither of those teams appeared to be championship caliber teams in those games.
