Not sure that is possible. At least that is without extending the season into spring each year.
But three small conference teams have beaten big conference teams in BCS bowls. You say they were also-rans, but they were the second-best teams in their conferences. But even though they beat the second-best team, you’re saying there is no way they could have beaten the best team in those conferences. That’s pure speculation.
Every other college football division does it. Why can’t Division 1-A?
Not really familar with what smaller divisions. Wasn’t really aware they used a playoff system. I stand corrected.
Not being familar with the smaller divisions I can't answer your question.
I would however suspect and say that the monies involved from the smaller divisions is not near what is involved in division 1a. The money issue also is determined by fan interest. I would speculate that more people nationwide would be interested in seeing Alabma play Texas than they would a championship game between Boise State and Alabama.
But hey, life ain't fair.
I do understand that it sounds like excuse making, but it is true that college teams who hoped for conference championships or a shot at the big game, LOSE in the bowls...Alabama last year is a prime example...Florida two years ago versus Michigan is another.
Georgia, on the other hand was NOT in the running for anything by year’s end two years ago...did NOT play for the conference championship..had two regular season losses in the SEC...but drew an undefeated Hawaii in the bowl...I predicted that Georgia would crush them, and they did 45-10...How did I know?...well, I simply looked at their schedule that year...a triple overtime win against LA Tech was a clue...etc....so I look at WHO they played and how well other teams did against those same opponents.
This year TCU beat Virginia 30-14, while William and Mary beat them 26-14!!! Indiana beat Virginia 47-7, and Miami beat them 52-17.
TCU beat Clemson 14-10, while Maryland, with ONLY TWO wins this year, beat them 24-21, and NC State with 7 losses this year, beat Clemson 43-23. Florida State (6 losses) beat them 40-24. Then there was the 3 point win over Air Force.
Boise beat Tulsa (a 7 loss team) 28-21, while East Carolina beat them 44-17, and Oklahoma crushed them 45-0. In fact, UTEP and Boise were Tulsa’s closest losing games.
Boise beat LA Tech by 45-35, and this was the MOST points scored all year by LA Tech.
Do you see a pattern here? Do you see how I can be confident that Boise and TCU would NOT survive a playoff system?
Nice analysis.
Don’t worry. Obama has a plan to fix this that is working it’s way through the Congress as we speak.
