It dawned with the warmest winter on record in the United States. And when the sun sets this New Year's Eve, the decade of the 2000s will end as the warmest ever on global temperature charts.
Warmer still, scientists say, lies ahead.
Through 10 years of global boom and bust, of breakneck change around the planet, of terrorism, war and division, all people everywhere under that warming sun faced one threat together: the buildup of greenhouse gases, the rise in temperatures, the danger of a shifting climate, of drought, weather extremes and encroaching seas, of untold damage to the world humanity has created for itself over millennia.
...
Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon told them they had "a powerful opportunity to get on the right side of history" at a year-ending climate conference in Copenhagen.
Once again, however, disunity might keep the world's nations on this side of making historic decisions.

The Sun ain’t cranking out spots like it usually does is my best hunch. ;-)
So release all the primary data. I know there are a lot of talented programmers out there, many of them here at FR that could do an outstanding job analyzing the raw data. I just want to see the averaged measured seasonal temperatures for as far back as we have been measuring, and I want to see that data as a function of urban vs. rural location. I also want to see the correlation between tree ring data, measured temperatures, and rainfall.
You know what blows me away? Is that way back when I first heard about the mmgw theory, just on the face of it, it seemed unbelievable. Before looking at any empirical data or research, it just defies logic. I guess if you live in downtown Los Angeles and you look out to see 8 factories in one direction and an 8 lane hwy packed with cars in the other and you haven’t traveled much and think to yourself “this is our world”, it might seem like CO2 emissions could alter the weather.
But to anyone who has even a slight grasp on just how big the world is, and what a small percentage of it is even inhabited by humans at all, it just seems impossible. I was willing to look at the research though and be objective and it’s so obvious what a fraud this is.
“Define scientists.”
I’m beginning to think that the term ‘climate scientist’ is an oxymoron, sort of like like ‘voodoo doctor’.
“Scientists” my ass. These fools have shown to be untrustworthy. They embarrass science and the scientific method. Political ideologues! Worthless saps! Hacks! If they didn’t have tenure they’d be begging on the street.
It sounds impossible but it's not. Let's say the temperature was increasing at 0.02 degree per year during the 90's peaking at an all time high in 1999. So the average during the 90's would be the 99 peak minus 0.1 degree. Then assume that throughout the 2000's, it declined at -0.01 degree per year for ten years. Then the average for the decade would be the 99 peak minus 0.05 degree, or 0.05 degree higher than the 90's average.
This only how it's mathematically possible that the last decade can be warmer than the average for the nineties, despite a decade of cooling. It still wouldn't be the warmest decade EVER unless the peak I mentioned was an all time high. 1998 was believed for some time to be an all time high, but the discovery some erroneous or falsified NASA data caused corrections of the 90's, and I believe the 1930's are now viewed as the warmest decade in the twentieth century.
And, it assumes we have reliable temperature data, which in the current politicized "climate" I highly doubt. Witness CRU.
AND, even if the data are real, and the last one was a warm decade, that's still a LONG way from proving AGW, or even GW for that matter.
In fact, since there is a high probability that the people we're dealing with are crooked, perhaps the last decade was "warmer" than the previous one only because the corrections I mentioned were applied to the 90's but they've so far "forgotten" to apply them to this decade. Kind of like when MADD lobbies Klinton, the Tyrant in Chief, to lower the DUI level, then claims there's been a sharp increase in DUI.
You make an interesting point. Maybe all those Tuvalu videos they claim document rising sea levels are actually showing an accumulation of GW-grant-"scientist" BS and not sea water.
"Government intelligence" "Microsoft Works"
Sure it was, and I’m selling lakefront property in Death Valley.
She's a whore, all right, but not in a useful way.
Climategate, Liargate, Deceptiongate, Redistribute the moneygate.
There was a time when I could actually trust the conclusion of “scientific study”, or what I thought WAS scientific study. Not anymore. I never thought I’d see the day when I would trust a “scientist” about as much as I’d trust a politician.
I think they are going to have a pretty difficult time selling this garbage to the public from here on out.
They can’t stop lying can they.
Well, it WAS the warmest decade in the last 10 years! ;-P
As they say in the plumbing world, “There’s only five things you have to know to be a plumber: Hot on the left, Cold on the right, S#!t floats, payday is on Friday and the Boss is an a$$hole.”...............
Someone better talk to the survivors of the Dirty Thirties. My Mother remembered 1934 as far hotter than anything we have seen since.
Ah, ah, ah, don’t forget “$h!t runs downhill”. (Course my dad was a carpenter and not a plumber so he may not have grasped the nuances)
And any “scientist” who is found to have been involved in any way should be fired and shunned.
