Washington (CNN) A leading Republican strategist and one-time aide to former Vice President Cheney said Sunday that President Obamas recently announced decision to send an additional 30, 000 troops to Afghanistan is a reassertion of the Bush doctrine.
The [Bush] doctrine is no safe havens [for terrorists intent on harming the United States] and we go after those that provide a harbor [for such terrorists]. Thats the doctrine, Republican strategist Mary Matalin explained Sunday on CNNs State of the Union.
Obamas decision to surge additional troops into Afghanistan is solid policy, in Matalins view and a reassertion of the Bush doctrine.
Every strategic element is from the Bush doctrine. The tactics are from the Bush surge [in Iraq], she said.

That’s a stretch - like saying “With two eyes, Obama resembles Lincoln.”
LLS
Barak Baines Obama is more like it.
Cheney said that the Bush administration did an Afghan Policy revue in 2008, that they let Obama have a look at it, and Obama adopted it as his policy, but Obama then got cold feet and began to dither.
What Cheney said then and what Matalin is saying now is true, but it is not accurate.
The Afghan policy revue was done in 2008. And the policy revue was signed off on by all the various foreign policy groups. The NeoCons approved it, as did the Realists, as did the Liberal Interventionists, as did Petreaus.
The COIN Afghan Policy was not done specifically for a new Prez Obama, it was done for the benefit of whoever would win the 2008 election.
So now we have not only Matalin, speaking on behalf of the NeoCons, praising Obama's war plans, but also Realists such as Gate, Scowcroft and Kisssinger doing likewise, and Liberal Interventionists such as Holbrooke, Ike Skelton, and Feinstein doing likewise.
“CNN - Political Ticker “ needs glasses, hearing aids and a new brain.
Matalin works for the Democrats. She can always get air time on the MSM, just like McCain ;-)
The “surge” does not resemble Bush. Bush gave the generals what they WANTED...as fast as possible. BO gave the general 75% of what was requested, 100 days later....
We must show how Obama is so very much like Bush just to anger the hard left so they will abandon him. In truth—they resemble each other in no way at all. Matalin should stay home and raise her kids.
