US President Barack Obama has made further changes to his plans for travelling to Europe. He will now go to the UN Climate Summit in Copenhagen after the Nobel Peace Prize Award ceremony in Oslo, rather than before. (With latest update)
Aftenposten, quoting the White House, says Prsident Obama has decided to attend the closing sessions of the Copenhagen Summit, and arrive there on December 18th.
Original plans called for Obama to travel to Copenhagen for the opening of the Summit, and then travel on to Oslo on the evening of Wednesday, December the 9th, and then return to Washington sometime Friday. According to the new plan, he will now arrive in Oslo early Thursday morning.
This will mean that President Obama will make a new trip to Europe to attend the closing sessions of the Climate Summit on December 17th and 18th.
Earlier, on Friday, public broadcaster NRK reported that the US President's scheduled international press conference in Oslo on Thursday had been cancelled.

This is first article I have seen that writes out what has been stumping me with the recent changes. The Nobel ceremony is Dec 10. But he announced recently he is changing his Copenhagen visit to its end, December 18, so he can come in at the end and claim credit, his tradition in the Illinois statehouse. I couldn’t believe it at first but yes, he is going to make two carbon smoking round trips to Europe withing 10 days.

Obama was being criticized for his plan to attend the early part of the CC Summit. It seemed that LOW LEVEL diplomats were only to be in early attendance and the so called World leaders wouldn’t be there till the end.
the low level people were supposed to be doing all the deals. The leaders were going to seal the deal.

I understand that he is changing his plans but, I was wondering if the treaty would be signed on the last day? I know that the Senate would have to ratify it however, could he use an end around? see link.

Not the way the AP’s reporting it. Apparently they’ve become MORE CONFIDENT of reaching an agreement and so Obama is no longer needing to be there for the early meetings, just the wrap up.

Next year he still won't be George W. Bush, but they have never given the Peace Prize to the same person twice.
Maybe they will give him the Nobel Prize for Literature next time around, for his ghost-written autobiography.
In the Norwegian papers they said it had a lot to do with Kyoto. The IPCC and Gore received the prize the year before. The Norway goverment, like the UK, might be heavily involved in carbon trading toxic financial instruments.
