The Tacoma News Tribune ran the comic strip "Jump Start" this Friday featuring a cop being shot less than a week after the cold-blooded murder of four Lakewood, WA police officers. The News Tribune pulled the strip today, but will begin running it again Monday. There was also a police shooting in Rochester, NY, where two officers were shot. Story here: http://www.democratandchronicle.com/article/20091204/NEWS01/91204017/JumpStart-cartoon-sparks-controversy-in-Rochester
I would say the news media just doesn't get it.
“I would say the news media just doesn’t get it.”
I hope that’s it. (But I think they do “get it”, they are simply on the other side)
Of course “they get it”. Scum hate the cops and the military.
That’s always a stupid strip. This is poor timing, and the paper’s editors screwed up by not pulling them.
Here are the strips in question:

Not sure if this cartoon was actually anti-police. The article concludes with a police statement:
The timing of the comic strip /Jump Start/ appears at first sight to be offensive. We, at times, criticize the media for jumping to conclusions and not obtaining all of the facts. It is equally important for *us* to obtain all the facts before jumping to a conclusion. We have determined that the strip in question was one of a series which actually was supportive of police officers. We urge everyone to read the strip as it concludes. We stress the importance of giving the benefit of the doubt to the cartoonist until the whole strip is concluded.

Trolling for those subversive patriotic quotes, Mr. Member Since an Hour Ago?
I suspect he’s making fun of religion, but the possibly unintended message is that good deeds are rewarded and that a religious medallion might save your life.
I agree that the strip itself is badly done, kind of like the ones in our local free leftist newspaper, Seven Days, which I find very useful to light the stove with.
No. I didn’t see it as anti-police. At worst, just bad timing....and not really “comic” in nature. But then, many of them aren’t.
How did your post get by without a URL link?
1st day. did you think using a G Beck term would get you a pass to send people to a Dumocrat Site?
They CERTAINLY DO GET IT!
THEY CERTAINLY ARE on the other side.
Break the chain and the officer ends up dead.

I don’t think the strip is anti-cop. The black cop and his wife are the central characters in the strip. It was unfortunate timing but the cartoonist could not have foreseen that. It seems to have a gooey liberal flavor (as in having the homeless person’s gift be what saves the cop’s life) but isn’t as intentionally offensive as a few strips are.
Maybe not Cicero, but c’mon, a comic strip featuring a cop shooting less than a week after four police were gunned down? Poor judgment by The News Tribune.
It’s actually a nice story, and supportive of the police, IMO.
Jump Start has always been very pro-police and very pro-family.
Sorry, you’re unlikely to get the ‘smoking gun’ FR quotes you are looking for.
No, I didn’t take it as anti-cop, it was just poor timing that the strip, drawn a month or two ago, just happened to run this week.
He’s not intentionally offensive, but the strip is always vapid. It’s one of the many I gloss over when reading the funny papers.
