To be fair, she called herself "Foxy Knoxy."
In this trial, even if that remark never passed her lips, the prosecutor would have made something up that sounded like that.
Scary part is that even if Amanda and her boyfriend told the truth from day one and it was something like the scenario I suggested, it quite likely still would have resulted in the same verdict -- guilty.
They are associating promiscuity, drugs and wild sex, with a narcissistic callousness & even sadism: "I love myself and no one else", "People are just objects for my self-gratification", etc.
In fact, sometimes those things behaviors go together and sometimes they don't. Sometimes women are promiscuous & use drugs because they are just naively adventurous -- or are unhappy and have low self-esteem -- or are victims of early abuse -- or are emotionally manipulative -- or, or, or....
But Italy still has the Madonna/Whore dichotomy buried deep in its cultural mindset, especially when it is combined with something as obscene as murder. The prosecutor just played to that mindset: "Is Amanda a virginal innocent?" The answer was "No", by anyone's stretch of imagination. Therefore she must be "an evil whore capable of anything". Verdict: "Guilty!"
Hi, I know we just met a little over a week ago, but how would you like to be the Charlie Mansons of Europe and help me rape and murder my uptight Brit roomate that I’ve known a whole 60 days?
Sounds good, but we’ll need a third player, someone really decadent that we have never hung out with to hold her.
How bout that drifter I’ve seen in Le Chic a couple of times?
Sure, the Italian thug interogators will never get him to admit to our involvement........
So, seriously, the drifter’s conscience sounds like the pairs only hope, particularly if he gives up the murder weapon. You know how they say “It takes one to know one? I would bet my life they are both innocent. Only another innocent accused person knows fully how the innocent will behave. It’s like we’re a club.

AH HAH! So you posted twice as A SIGNAL to the convicts! YOU are the American connection I have always believed was the mastermind behind them!

Well, you are one up on me, because I wouldn't even bet my life on my own "total innocence".
But I don't think that they killed her.
Apparently, according to her friends in the US, they gave her that nickname because of her soccer playing ability. She then used it on her Facebook page, saying she liked sex.
I would add to this only that Italy is not alone in this regard. We also see it here in this country, especially on this very site. Witness the many condemnatory remarks, on this thread and others, prefaced only by references to her sexual habits. Even apparently gleeful suggestions that Knox can look forward to years of lesbian rape in prison, which they figure the "dirty whore" probably wanted all along, I guess.
For too many people, Knox's lifestyle is reason enough to lock her up in a dungeon and throw away the key. Very disturbing.
oh, well I wish somebody had explained that one. Obviously that wasn’t a problem.
True enough. I think that there are some people-- even here-- who get too wrapped up in the salaciousness of it, which is pretty sick. Those people have their own set of sexual and mental problems.
But Italians from this region (Perugia is only about ten miles from Assisi) have a different -- almost medieval Catholic -- mindset when it comes to this sort of thing. Many are very old-school conservative, and the fact that American Amanda came to their region and slept around & did drugs would alone be enough to convict her as "showing no respect" "typical selfish American" and "capable of anything".
When I was in that region, I stayed in Assisi, a few miles away from Perugia -- big mistake. Assisi is most boring town on the face of the planet, bar none. No one smiled or laughed, and if you did, they shot you dirty looks. When a waiter at the hotel restaurant bumped into one of the patrons while he was carrying a mountain of plates, the scene turned into one of those Jerry Lewis long moments as the waiter struggled to keep balancing them for about ten seconds until he lost the battle and the plates crashed to the floor. Someone in our group said (not loudly), "Oppa!" and we laughed involuntarily. The next day, the hotel spitefully didn't give us our wake-up call and barred our tour group from ever staying at the hotel again. I mean we weren't raucous drunk kids -- we were sober, respectful 50 year-olds who just happened to "laugh at the wrong time", according to them. The hotel didn't have to bar us because I would have never set foot in Assisi again, anyway!
Yeah, what were you accused of? (nothing)
I am simply saying that you never know for a fact what people are capable of. There are people in my own life that I would have bet my life on, that ultimately surprised me. Why not someone that you've never met?
It's for that reason that we demand proof in this country based, not just on the weight of the evidence, but beyond any reasonable doubt. Our "gut" isn't enough here, but apparently it is in Italy.
The sword cuts both ways.
