The thing is, a lot of people are unhappy because he isn’t acting liberal ENOUGH for them. This isn’t exactly good for our cause.

....high marks for his recently announced Afghanistan policy. Huh?

The thing is, a lot of people are unhappy because he isnt acting liberal ENOUGH for them. This isnt exactly good for our cause. So Bush's low approval ratings were a result of people on the right blaming him for not being conservative enough, his position on amnesty, etc.

Some jerk from the progressive institute (or some such) came on Beck today and said, with a straight face, that none of this scandal matters, since this is isolated to the UK. Becks stand-in (don’t know who it is) did all he could to keep from BUAHAHAHAing in the guy’s face.
Anyone know when Penn State relocated to the UK? Maybe he got it confused with the source of the TOTUS-reader’s cabinet and czars and thought they said “state pen.”

All this means is that his base is pissed off. The same thing happened to GWB. When his ratings really tanked, it was because his supporters were pissed at him.
Spinners always misread or mislead this sort of thing, pretending it represents a shift in the national mood and thinking. I don't think so. It means he's getting it from both ends--the conservatives who never liked him, and now the left who is disappointed/disenchanted with him. Then you get a little movement from the idiots in the middle, but they come and go with the tide.

To: thefactor
If he doesn't get anywhere on health care, he's going to need some kind of scooby snack to throw the left. Or maybe fate will bail him out and give him a chance to nominate another SCOTUS judge, which will focus his base for a short time.
GWB used to do the same kind of thing. After you make a move that pisses off your base, you find a way to throw em a bone. GWB did that with his stem cell policy, and some other abortion related stuff, as I recall.

So Bush's low approval ratings were a result of people on the right blaming him for not being conservative enough, his position on amnesty, etc. That was definitely a big part of it. I would bet you if you go back and look, you'd find his worst numbers (up until the end when they just all out tanked) were at the times when the RIGHT was pissed---Dubai, Amnesty, Harriet Miers, Kennedy education bill, etc. The left always hated him. His numbers on the left couldn't get any lower.

50% Disapprove? No ‘leaners’? No ‘I don’t knows’? there’s always ‘I don’t knows’.
Doesn’t sound like a very scientific poll to me. The raw numbers are probably much much worse.
