Across the land, grindstones sing as axes are sharpened for the RINOs. For years, conservatives have railed against these moderate "Republicans in Name Only," launching primary campaigns against them, pouring money into their opponents' campaign funds, and excluding them from committee chairmanships. But since 2006 the party's pulse has weakened, and the GOP's leaders have decided that nothing is more healthful in such a situation than hacking off a limb or two.
That, evidently, is the thinking behind the 10-point test for GOP candidates that was proposed last week by a group of Republican national committee members. If a candidate "disagrees" with three or more of the pointssaid disagreement to be determined by one's "voting record, public statements and/or signed questionnaire"then they can forget about financial support from Republican central.

we’re not chopping off a limb or two. We’re cutting out the cancer
I agree in litmus testing in the Republican party. I have been a supporter of this for many years and I am glad that it is happening.
Well said!
The WSJ is famous for having conservative editorial page writers and flaming leftist reporters.
In this case, they seem to have invited a flaming leftist in to advise the Republican Party.
As it notes at the link, Thomas Frank is “author of What’s the Matter With Kansas? (2004) about the red-state mindset. His book about conservative governance, The Wrecking Crew, was published in 2008.”
Yeah, sure. Looks like a candidate to be next chair of the RNC.
The Dems litmus test: abortion, socialism, surrender.
I’m so glad the GOP is thinking about shrinking the tent even more than it already does. Are you kidding me?
Good way to keep the Democrats in power forever.
No thanks
Dim bulb.
The “checkoff list” was pretty limp-wristed, to tell the truth.
The reference to purge trials is noxious. No trials, just stop voting for people who don’t have any principles.
And, to the GOP swells, stop asking us to vote for these people. Give us people who understand basic economics, and the basic founding principles of the republic, and we won’t have a problem. Keep sending up people who want to give away the farm and we do have a problem.
Do we want to get rid of GOP “moderates”? No. Not at all. We just don’t want them in office. If they don’t know what they stand for, let them remain in private life where they won’t do as much harm.
What is the use of having the majority in congress if part of your party then votes against you and defeats your legislation?
We need party discipline and a real platform. Conservative.
We need to make the difference stark and real. We can win as conservatives.

The WSJ, and you, should be applauding this move not rushing to defend the dead wood. If we had done this in 2005 rather then defending the likes of Foley, Cunningham et al we would not of lost the Congress in 2006.
Democrats did this decades ago. JFK could not be nominated today. The Henry Wallace wing of the party runs the party now.
Litmus Testing keeps the party ideologically pure.
So which Leftist propaganda outfit do you work for?
The GOP does something your sort has been screaming for for years so OF COURSE you come to this thread and scream the same ignorant Hate the GOP trash talk as usual.
So either you are too politically ignorant to realize you are actively working as an unpaid propaganda agent of the Democrat Party or you are a Democrat Party activist lying about your real political allegiances.
Which is it are you a fool or a fraud?
The very first thing that we need to do is get rid of that Mitt Romney character.
