The UCMJ is a criminal code...violations of the punitive articles are criminal offenses. They may be adjudicated non-judicially, but if the soldier or the chain-of-command elects to try the offense by court martial and the soldier is found guilty, it IS a federal conviction.

Thank you for explaining that. I thought at first that your were saying the military is too harsh in its punishment
