Secret Service punished in Salahi case By: Glenn Thrush and Jake Sherman December 3, 2009 12:47 PM EST

Secret Service agents who let a gate-crashing couple through a checkpoint at last week’s White House state dinner have been placed on administrative leave — and could face unspecified disciplinary actions, the agency’s director said.

In 90 minutes of testimony before a House committee Thursday, Director Mark Sullivan deflected blame from embattled White House social secretary Desiree Rogers — even as the chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee left open the possibility of subpoenaing Rogers as a witness.

Republicans blame Rogers, who has been prevented from appearing before the committee by White House officials, for failing to help agents identify Tareq and Michaele Salahi as gate crashers not on the approved guest list.

But Sullivan said the only mistakes made were by his agents and vowed to take “appropriate actions” against the agents following an internal probe.

"I take responsibility," Sullivan told the committee, which was critical of the agency for allowing potentially dangerous interlopers in a dinner that included Obama, the prime minister of India and dozens of dignitaries.

The head of the SS should resign if it is their fault. Somehow, I don’t believe that. These guys deserve to have a leak of what really went on. If they won’t let this b-itch be cross examined,,then they have a lot to hide.

No doubt they would have been punished as well had they defied the orders of whoever it was that told them to break protocol and let them in.

Sadly, that's how things work when you have people like Obama and Rahm Emmanuel running things.

These guys usually do a great job but this kind of incompetence needs to be nipped in the bud with suspensions and/or firing wherever this leads. This is not a haha matter nor a let’s do better next time pep talk.

I’ll tell you what’s weird. There are reportedly ties between Salahi and a pro-Palestian/anti-Israel group, a cleric, and persons in the Obama administration.

And yet we hear him and his wife being called publicity seeking “white trash” totally ignoring the political aspects of his background.

I'm not a conspiracy guy, but this doesn't pass the smell test. They say they weren't gate crashers. It's really hard for me to believe someone can bravo sierra their way into the White House. There's got to be more to this story.

If the Secret Service is punished, Desiree should be also.
There was a breech no doubt if she had been doing HER job
it wouldn’t have gone any farther.

I agree. Had they “bucked” a direct order from Ms. Rogers, they might not have been put on “administrative leave,” but I’ll just bet they’d have been transferred to the northwestern-most point of Alaska — screwed either way and another sad day for us.

It would be weirder if they released the video of the gate....and who(if anyone) escorted (if it happened)”them” past security....but don’t hold your breath. I find it very hard to believe the SS allowed this if they were not on the list.

Let’s see: The Obama Administration so far has alienated the U. S. Armed Services, the Secret Service, and Blackwater. Hm-m-m. At this rate, there won’t be anybody but Michelle left, and I’d hate to have to trust her too far.

Maybe the conspiracy is that the SS has figured a way to get out of this crap duty. I say these on Admin Leave are lucky.
What ossamma obama needs to do is replace all the SS with those just like Calypso Louie has watching his back.

“You will pick a few of your agents to take the fall or your career is over. You don’t have to really punish them, just blame them and put them on admin leave until this blows over.”

I figure Salahi got to the door, showed the SS agent the holstered .45 under his jacket, and the agent eagerly pointed him in the right direction.

So, does nobody else remember the party crasher at one of Bushes dinners? The guy, a pastor I believe, who said God allowed him to walk right in to deliver a message to Bush, walked up to the President and told him there would be 40,000 casualties in Iraq if Bush went ahead with the military action.

This is similar to the situation in which an Air Force flunky took the heat for the AF1 buzzing of the Statue of Liberty. Nobody takes AF1 out for a joyride without orders from above, and nobody let that couple through the gate without orders from the WH, probably in the person of Desiree Rogers.

In addition to everything else, Obama and the gang are so embarrasingly gauche. They are obviously so ga-ga about being treated as celebrities and being in the presence of celebrities that their little eyes are sparkling and they just can’t contain themselves. No class. And nobody around them has any, either.

This reeks on ice. The "crashers" were second-order acquaintances of the Mutt, and couldn't have gotten in without the say-so of someone near the top of the food chain.

And now that the Secret Service has been scapegoated, watch for the announcement that the agents closest to Lord Wee-Wee will be replaced by Nation of Islam / National Black Panther Party / SEIU / ACORN thugs and druggies -- coming in 5, 4, 3, ...

While this White House pledged new levels of transparency, they have not been completely open with the guest lists of who HAS visited this president. Some names may not appear on lists because they don’t want them to appear.

Recall that the Clinton White House team knew that some staffers would not pass a background check so the checks were called off altogether.
