WASHINGTON House Republicans pointed to controversial e-mails leaked from climate scientists and said it was evidence of corruption. Top administration scientists looking at the same thing found no such sign, saying it doesn't change the fact that the world is warming.
The e-mails from a British university's climate center were obtained by computer hackers and posted online about two weeks ago. Climate change skeptics contend the messages reveal that researchers manipulated and suppressed data and stifled dissent, and conservative bloggers are dubbing it "Climategate."
In the first Capitol Hill airing of the issue, House Republicans Wednesday read excerpts from at least eight of the e-mails, saying they showed the world needs to re-examine experts' claims that the science on warming is settled. One e-mail from 2003 was by John Holdren, then of Harvard University and now the president's science adviser.
The exploding controversy led Phil Jones to step aside as head of the climate research unit at the University of East Anglia, the source of the e-mail exchanges. The university is investigating the matter. Penn State University also is looking into e-mails by its own researcher, Michael Mann. House Republicans asked for a separate hearing or investigation into the issue, but were rebuffed by Democrats.
"These e-mails show a pattern of suppression, manipulation and secrecy that was inspired by ideology, condescension and profit," said U.S. Rep. James Sensenbrenner, R-Wis.

But they had good intentions!
Congress ought to look into the fraudulent use of taxpayer grants to these enviro-cultists. Rush read an email that clearly shows that they were worried that their expensive junkets would expose their misuse of government funding.
Thomas Dolby’s song wasn’t sci-fi after all.
AGW assaults rigorous scientific inquiry with its fuzzy math, after all, and discredits ‘science’ per se by undercutting scientific method.
I think the mainstream tried to suppress it and Congress with the exception of Inholde(sp?) was afraid to touch it.
But thanks to Al Gore’s invention the story kept spreading until they practically had no choice.
Holdren made the mistake of saying he would divulge all emails and data he had on AGW/Climate Change/Oceanic Acidification. Sensenbrenner told him to expect a lot of letters (requests)
Yes, any warming that's been seen so far is well within natural variability. Further, things haven't been warming since at least 2001, as evidenced admitted in one of the leaked emails:
IPCC co-author Kevin Trenberth, in an email to other members of this conspiracy: "The fact is that we cannot account for the lack of warming at the moment and it's a travesty that we can't."Solar variability and flaws in the IPCC models that exaggerate the effect of CO2 are the decisive factors explaining (probably increasing) cooling.
And if it is warming, then it's very questionable whether man has anything to do with it at all.
First of all...what the hell is an "administration scientist"? Is that like the king's wizards and alchemists?
Secondly...It is not a fact that "the world is warming". It has been cooling for the last 10 years.
Could anyone explain to me why the “media” uses pictures of nuclear facilities cooling towers emitting Water Vapor(steam) when they are doing stories on Air Pollution? Sometimes they also use ordinary stacks emitting water vapor. Are they saying water vapor is a pollutant?
There is a difference between smoke and water vapor!
“Obama will go down in history as the best President ever based on his good intentions.”
Sure, just like Jimmuh Carter! LOL!
Loved by liberals, despised by the sane people.
“BINGO!!! A liberal is only to be measured on his good intentions and NEVER EVER on their results.”
This is another reason liberals attack the traditional values of the United States, because it used to be a part of the culture that: “The road to He!! is paved with good intentions.”
Sorry to disagree Cheerio, but Obama's intentions are questionable at best. Some believe his hatred for this country causes him to want to take this country down many notches, and become subservient to other nations. I leave you with a question. If Obama wanted to intentionally harm our economy and weaken our military, what changes to his current policies would he have to make?
I suggest the answer is nothing. He's accomplishing his goal of weakening the US military and destroying its economic standing and outlook/future.
