I was reminded of why a political elite matters ...

In my opinion, all Dreher's writing can be summarized with "why a (something) elite matters" and why he considers himself a member of the specific elite class.

Just another anti Palin troll. Any puke that thinks a political elite is necessary is not, in and of them selves, necessary.

Besides the Rino label, he needs another label that fits most of the so called males who hate Sarah:

A pusher of the gay agenda as documented by his articles and opeds:

http://search.yahoo.com/search?ei=utf-8&fr=slv8-hptb5&p=Rod%20Dreher%20%20%2b%20gay&type=

Why do Gays and Gay Agenda pushers hate and fear Sarah so much?

Her mind isn't geared toward resolving basic philosophical contradictions like her observation that corporations and politicians often collude against the common good, and her dogmatic belief in the sanctity of free enterprise. Well, which is it? You can't hymn the majesties of capitalism's "creative destruction" on one page, while proclaiming yourself a staunch defender of traditional families and institutions on another. Huh? WTH does this mean? Sounds like authentic frontier gibberish. Well, which is it? They are contradictory, I suppose, in the same sense that he considers himself a writer in the sense that he knows how to spell check a block of text?

Actually, I think he makes a few good points.

I’m as drawn to Palin as most people here, and probably for the same reason: Her unapologetically conservative speaches.

But beyond that, what do we really know about her?

I guess we can argue about what constitutes leadership, and that’s an argument worth having.

But nonetheless, maybe we should be a bit more circumspect in terms of declaring our allegiance on the basis of a few speaches. After all, isn’t that what we deride the left for doing with Obama?

We “need” an elite who look down on us because they have such interesting...thoughts...about governance

sarc

And most never hired someone (except a nanny or gardener), worried about meeting a payroll or produced tangible goods or services in their effete lives

Give me Joe the Plumber and Todd and Sarah the commercial fishermen anyday

But when she started talking, revealing that she had no interesting thoughts about national governance,

Author lost me right there. If he "thinks" that Gov. Palin has nothing interesting to say about "national governance" he's a fool.

...her observation that corporations and politicians often collude against the common good, and her dogmatic belief in the sanctity of free enterprise.

This elitist can't tell the difference between collusion and free enterprise and calls Palin a fool because she can!

To paraphrase: There's no fool like a pompous fool.

I view Palin’s book as a foundation of her next book or series of speeches that will lay out policy thoughts.

If this book is a best a seller then the next one or the series of policy thoughts should prove interesting while garnering sales and attention that otherwise wouldn’t take place.

This reminds me of those anonymous man in the street propaganda interviews by the MSM. “I used to be a Republican, but I simply can’t vote for Fill-in-the-Blank.”

Sure, Rod Dreher was “an early Palin supporter.” In the Cretacious Age, no doubt.

Palin's vacuous populism is a crude example of intellectual corruption tainting public discourse

Sorry, but there is nobody in recent political history who has explified the concept of "vacuous populism" to the extent of one Barack Obama.

You had to turn off your brain and run on emotion to vote for him unless you were one of those people edging for a payoff in the end (job in the admin, payoffs for your business, etc.). Although it wasn't scientific, I think Hannity's interviews with Obama supporters on the street supports my contention, as few of them could actually give a logical, issues-based reason for supporting him, and those who could weren't able to defend that position.

Here is an opinion column without a single fact extolling the verity of opinions of ‘the best and brightest’. So what are some of these ‘facts’ the best and brightest have? He doesn't say. He tells us you cannot hold the position that capitalism is good while admitting some capitalists have sold out to collude with government to bilk the public. That opinion is simply childish nonsense. Bad actor are found in every human institution, every adult knows that.
And who makes up these fabulous elites?
Jimmy Carter I? Jimmy Carter II? Barney Frank and Chris Dodd??
Certainly not Abraham Lincoln or Ronald Reagan, poor hicks who had no ‘interesting ideas.’

It is getting harder and harder for the Palin haters to ignore the unbelievably long lines of people at her book signings, the camping out, the people turned away due to lack of time, etc. Not to mention that her book sales are breaking all records. 2012 won’t even be close.

Hm. See, Rob, here’s the problem. There are entirely too many stories about Governor Palin that continue to circulate as true, up to a year and more later, despite easily accessible public and private historical record to the contrary, and/or their blatant violation of simple logic and common sense. You say Palin supporters are entitled to their own opinion, not their own facts. I say that rebuke could and should be more fairly and truly pronounced against her detractors.

Dreher is the token “conservative” at the Dallas Morning News. My lib acquaintances always like to quote him when he does the RINO dance.

Traditional belief in the effectiveness of reason, however imperfectly realized, has long been a stabilizing force in our liberal democracy.

The larger staablilizing force in our democracy is the belief that "man is created equal," that he is "endowed by his Creator." Without the belief and acceptance of God, America is lost.

Rod Dreher is another of those “make believe conservatives” (like Frum and Brooks) that has crafted a lucrative career bashing true conservatives like Sarah Palin. MSM loves him.
