Is everyone entitled to own facts?

...As an early Palin supporter, I cheered for the feisty small-town Alaskan who wasn't part of the political and cultural elite. But when she started talking, revealing that she had no interesting thoughts about national governance, I was reminded of why a political elite matters...

But nonetheless, maybe we should be a bit more circumspect in terms of declaring our allegiance on the basis of a few speaches.

My opinion of her is not based on her speeches. It is based on her ability to clean up a corrupt political machine in her own party; bring the largest corporation in the world to its knees; return oil profits to the citizens of her state; and, build from the ground up the largest public works project in the history of the world on time and under budget. By God that speaks to me louder than any words.

“We know more about her than we know about our current sitting pResident”

Yeah, but hopefully you’ll agree that’s setting the bar pretty low.

I think you’re using the term “no one” a bit casually.

I think you're arguing by assertion. Support your initial claim that anyone here is basing their support for Governor Palin "on the basis of a few speeches."

It is getting harder and harder for the Palin haters to ignore the unbelievably long lines of people at her book signings, the camping out, the people turned away due to lack of time, etc. Not to mention that her book sales are breaking all records. 2012 won’t even be close.

“Mayor, Governor, mother, intelligent, honest, etc as compared to communist Chicago street thug.”

That’s not really the argument I was thinking of. I expected it to be more like her lack of qualifications in terms of world affairs vs the view that no modern leader can really be an expert in every single thing. Instead you pick someone who’s views appear to match your own, and then trust their judgement to pick the correct advisors, or listen to the correct views.

And I’m “generally” all right with the later.

But you listing of her qualifications gives me pause...

Mayor, Governor... Ok.

Intelligent? I don’t know her IQ, and you probably don’t either. Has she released her transcripts? And if you say “well you can jsut tell by the way she talks, etc.”, that’s no better than how people evaluated Obama.

Honest? How would we know. That’s really just a subjective assessment.

Mother? That’s no more a qualifcation for the presidency than “wise Latina woman” is qualification for the supreme court.

“..bring the largest corporation in the world to its knees; return oil profits to the citizens of her state; and, build from the ground up the largest public works project in the history of the world on time and under budget.”

To be honest, that sounds like a record Dennis Kucinich would be proud to have.

Given your name and tagline, I’m guessing you support her primarily for her religous views.

I can’t Kent.

I don’t really think such a thing is provable. Do you? There’s no way I can get inside anyone’s head and actually “see” why they support her.

Hm. See, Rob, here’s the problem. There are entirely too many stories about Governor Palin that continue to circulate as true, up to a year and more later, despite easily accessible public and private historical record to the contrary, and/or their blatant violation of simple logic and common sense. You say Palin supporters are entitled to their own opinion, not their own facts. I say that rebuke could and should be more fairly and truly pronounced against her detractors.

"And if you say “well you can jsut tell by the way she talks, etc.”, that’s no better than how people evaluated Obama."

False!

Listening to Obama, it was clear that his intelligence was low-normal, and his education no more real than Bill Clinton's. Without the teleprompter, he couldn't speak at all - couldn't articulate anything. Palin on the other hand speaks clearly and articulates her deep understanding of all the issues, foreign and domentic, and has never taken the sock off of the teleprompter since September 2008. She answers impromptu questions in depth without pause, and speaks to the issues in real time via twitter within minutes, with stunningly brilliant analysis.

Obama goes "uh, uh, uh..."

I can’t Kent.

I'm well aware of that, yes.

I don’t really think such a thing is provable. Do you?

Of course not. Then again, however: I wasn't the one blandly offering up the snide PDS bullet point as an example of revealed wisdom, either, was I?

There’s no way I can get inside anyone’s head and actually “see” why they support her [...] Given your name and tagline, I’m guessing you support her primarily for her religous views.

Dreher is the token “conservative” at the Dallas Morning News. My lib acquaintances always like to quote him when he does the RINO dance.

I guess I don’t get your attitude. I’m not anti Palin. I’m just suggesting we may be wearing blinders to some degree, jsut like pro Obama folks did.

I guess I don’t get your attitude.

My "attitude" is simply logical argument, based upon statements previously made, and either bolstered with supporting evidence or not.

Granted, it isn't to all tastes.

Looking at your posting history you are clearly anti-Palin and I get the impression you are anti-social conservative in general and like Ron Paul and perhaps like the third party idea.

Traditional belief in the effectiveness of reason, however imperfectly realized, has long been a stabilizing force in our liberal democracy.

The larger staablilizing force in our democracy is the belief that "man is created equal," that he is "endowed by his Creator." Without the belief and acceptance of God, America is lost.

“Why do Gays and Gay Agenda pushers hate and fear Sarah so much?”

There are exceptions.

Check out http://www.hillbuzz.org, gay guys in Chicago!, they’re very supportive of Sarah.

Also, http://www.tammybruce.com, lesbian former NOW president of LA chapter, also VERY supportive of Sarah.

I guess you mean anti “social conservative”, rather than anti-social conservative, although those who know me might argue otherwise.

When you say “clearly anti Palin” though, I disagree. Unless, as in this case, you take any cautionary statements or critcism of any kind as being “anti”.

But whatever. Truthfully, you are correct about my thinking we might need a 3rd party. A lot of “Republicans” are little better than their opponent when it comes to small gvt and fiscal conservatism.

Others have pretty much put your objections/assertions to lie but as far as her intelligence or IQ, I am really suspect of anyone who can’t correctly spell the word “speeches”. Twice.

Apparently you’ve been spending too much time at DU as that seems to be one of the hallmarks of the spittle laced, factless type of PDS spew that passes for “intelligence” on the liberal left. Possibly you need to brush up on some very basic elementary school spelling before you post and display your biases.

Like someone once said, your ignorance is encyclopedic. Another one said it’s best to remain silent and be thought an idiot that to open one’s mouth and remove all doubt.

Then there’s the Rules of Holes.

All would be good for you to take heed of before displaying your... um, ‘challenged faculties’ here.
