Liberals warn Obama that base may skip midterm elections

Prominent liberal activists are warning Democratic leaders that they face a problem with the party’s base heading into an election year.

The latest issue to roil relations between President Barack Obama and the liberal wing of the party is his decision to send 30,000 more troops to Afghanistan, which liberals fear could become a debacle like Vietnam.

The left is also concerned the administration and party leaders have drifted too far to the center or are caving in to non-liberal interest groups in key policy battles, including healthcare reform, climate change and energy reform and financial regulatory reform. In some cases, liberals fear the White House is backing away entirely from core issues, such as the closing of the Guantánamo Bay detention camp and ending the “Don’t ask, don’t tell” policy that prevents gays and lesbians form serving openly in the military.

“I think there’s a growing concern that Washington is losing battles to entrenched lobbying interests and the administration is not effectively in charge and a sense that things aren’t going well,” said Robert Borosage, co-director of the Campaign for America’s Future, a liberal advocacy group

When your base is motivated by free money and government goodies, what do you do when the government goes broke?

I think the thing that most spooked congressional Dems last month was Obama’s failure to get voters out to the polls in New Jersey of all places.

This is nothing but liberals attempting to lay the ground work for the spin to come after the election. The spin AFTER the election will be that democrats lost because Obama has governed to CONSERVATIVELY ! And that conservatives didn’t really win, it’s just that ticked off liberals stayed home in protest to Obama’s right wing policies!

ROFL

If the Left isn't seeing the free mortgages, free health care and other goodies, they'll stay home. And when they stay home the Democrats face a wipeout. No wonder the party is in such a hurry to deliver on its agenda.

the left has been very clear, even cocky about this since the day Barry gave his victory speech.

We made him. We own him. He is going to dance to our drummer. If he deviates from that there is gonna be hell to pay. He may not support us 100% on everything, but he is weak and can be rolled. And we damn well intend to do the rolling.

steele, newt, romney, mccain, grahamnesty and the rest of the rino contingency do not want any confidence to be built within the base for any reason whatsoever. I have read 5 articles today that have told us that we must not show any confidence at all and that we should remain silent and whimpering and adhere to the party rino rule of dim lite communism. What we need to do is paint the picture that the dims own mothers will not vote for them... for perception in politics is reality and the perception the rnc and their allies the dims want is one of defeat for Conservatives... sorry pal... I ain't playing.

Sure they will skip the election. And I believe in the tooth fairy. Obama could spit in the left’s face and they would still LOVE him. Clinton proved that koolaid loyalty has no bounds.

I don't take it that way. I take it like we've got to run like we're in second place and not to start pacing ourselves.

.....which liberals fear could become a debacle like Vietnam. ......

To say that is to be disingenuous or just plain ignorant.

The left is antiwar. they would oppose a war if the barbarians were beating down their door ( or card board box in the case of homeless lefties) They oppose war because it is war.

The question was settled for all time with the defeat of America by the US Congress and Hanoijane/Lurch et al. They don’t fear another Vietnam. Vietnam was a victory. A few dead students at Kent State was a cheap price for the victory and end of the war

Since when does the Democrat Party need actual voters to win elections?

"The left is also concerned the administration and party leaders have drifted too far to the center..."

This doesn't bode well for future unity in the country, does it?

IMHO they should do the country a favor and skip every election! Let the adults decide who is going to run things.
