Why women are (or are not) reading Sarah Palin
The Christian Science Monitor ^ | December 2, 2009 | Marjorie Kehe

Posted on 12/02/2009 9:03:33 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

“When women talk about Palin,” points out Lisa Belkin, “it’s not just politics, it’s personal.” No kidding. And that at least partially explains the fervor of Palin fans like cousins Nicole Colter and Stephanie Jefferson who drove 4-1/2 hours (Colter) or flew six hours (Jefferson) to Springfield, Mo., to get Palin to autograph their copies of “Going Rogue” and then to hear her speak at the College of the Ozarks.

But Belkin, who published a piece called “Why Women Can’t Let Sarah Palin Go” in The New York Times, sees at least as much animosity as admiration in the female response to Palin. She believes that hardworking, educated women respond to Sarah Palin the way they did to the head cheerleader in high school. (Even though in fact Palin was not a cheerleader but the captain of her high_school basketball team.)

“Pretty and popular, with no apparent interest in studying, she’s the one who industrious girls were tacitly promised would not succeed in the real world,” writes Belkin.”Whether we voted for Hillary or not, we weren’t about to let Palin breeze in, with her sexy librarian hair and her peekaboo-toed shoes, conforming to every winking, air-brained stereotype, and sashay to the front of the line.”

And yet, she admits, “Which is not to say we didn’t like her for a moment. We were intrigued by this woman who could govern a state and raise five children and field-dress a moose; who seemed to do what the rest of us could not manage – to have it all.”

Eilene Zimmerman, writing for True/Slant, says she sees an even more basic reason for women (or men) to dismiss Palin: “[S]he’s simply not smart.” And yet Zimmerman has trouble reconciling that perception with this fact: “She’s sold a million books in two weeks.”(continued)

Would Obama have had as many fawning Obots if he were butt ugly?

I don't think ole blue lips is too handsome. He seems kind of cadaverous to me.

She dropped significantly to 54% - perhaps this is the unspoken reason why Palin resigned. We'll never know.

You are amazing, without any time to make up for 10 months of a media attack worse than any that we have ever seen, Palin resigned her office at 56% approval rating, a campaign for reelection would have sent her numbers much higher, her reelection was never in doubt.

Many Governors would kill for 56% approval, Romney left office at 34%.

Palin was a virtual unknown outside of a state that has roughly the same population as Memphis, TN - tell me, who's the mayor of Memphis, TN? See my point?

Alaska has one of the smallest state populations but it is still a large and complex state, and Palin held one of the most powerful Governor's seats.

The Wall Street Journal:
"One rap on Sarah Palin's qualifications to be Vice President is that she governs one of our least populated states, with a budget of "only" $12 billion and 16,000 full-time state employees. On the other hand, it turns out that the Governor's office in Alaska is one of the country's most powerful.

.For more than two decades Thad Beyle, a political scientist at the University of North Carolina, has maintained an index of "institutional powers" in state offices. He rates governorships on potential length of service, budgetary and appointment authority, veto power and other factors. Mr. Beyle's findings for 2008 rate Alaska at 4.1 on a scale of 5. The national average is 3.5.

Only four other states -- Maryland, New Jersey, New York and West Virginia -- concentrate as much power in the Governor's office as Alaska does, and only one state (Massachusetts) concentrates more. California may be the nation's most populous state, but its Governor rates as below-average (3.2) in executive authority. This may account in part for Arnold Schwarzenegger's poor legislative track record. The lowest rating goes to Vermont (2.5), where the Governor (remember Howard Dean) is a figurehead compared to Mrs. Palin.

In Alaska, the Governor has line-item veto power over the budget and can only be overridden by a three-quarters majority of the Legislature. In 1992, the year Arkansas Governor Bill Clinton was elected President, his state budget was $2 billion and among the smallest in the country. Compared to that, Sarah Palin is an executive giant."

As I suspected, nothing but opinion. You're full of it. Get back to me when you can back up your moronic statements with actual facts. Otherwise, you're just full of very hot and smelly air.

What do you call this retarded post of yours, to which I wasw replying in the fist place then, and I quote from your post:

“I'm looking for a nominee who can form complete sentences, actually win a debate with a retard like Joe Biden, “

If that is not retarded, loony left, opinion, what is?
Its quite reasonable for me to reply to your moronic opinion, with quotes from far better human beings that you like Rush Limbaugh and the New York Post, which totally take apart your ridiculous post and then some.

Right; I’m a big butch man-hating feminist who despises her children and leads her husband around by the nose.
Does that make it easier for you to disagree with me?
Puh-lease.

Palin’s not perfect, but she’s the most outspoken conservative voice we have at the moment. There’s still plenty of time for an even better candidate to step out and make himself heard; let’s hope he does. Until then, though, I’m going to cross my fingers for Sarah.

I didn't say that. In response to your previous post I said that America men save our lives everyday and you don't give them credit for it.

Then I posted an article that supports my position that Sarah Palin is a Feminist and it's not a good thing.

From your article:
Praised as virtuous by desperate conservatives, Sarah and Todd Palin fit nicely into today's modern version of Christianity where true masculinity in the form of family leadership is absent, and women abdicate feminine roles in the home.

...While Sarah Palin may be the darling of the pro-life movement, she is no sweetheart of the pro-family community. Its leaders could be in for some unpleasant surprises.

So not only does ms. St John believe that 'conservatives' are people who already approve of gender role reversal, but she believes those of us that don't are too stupid to realize that Palin is an acceptable candidate, but not an ideal one?

Christian conservatives don't need a perfect, infallible human messiah; we already have a real one. We want a person with integrity, a backbone, and similar views.

I have talked to a lot of women, and tried to find out what they have against Sarah. I got all kinds of gooblegoop for answers, but it all boils down to one thing. They are jealous of Sarah. They don't admit it, but they are, Sarah has done more in her short life than those old Moose have in theirs and then are jealous down to the bone. They all say she has no experience, Experience my butt, she sure had a lot more than some neighborhood organizer working for Acorn.

Sarah Palin has not asked the military to put women anywhere. As for having any fears about a woman commander-in-chief, Deborah was asked to help lead the Israelite army by the very man who was supposed to lead the army. They defeated the enemy and just as Deborah predicted, God gave the victory into the hands of a woman.

If your fear of Palin is due to some misplaced fear of a woman leading the military, I can only say I would rather have the military led by a godly woman, than any number of atheistic, agnostic, apostate, Islamic, or pagan men. Again, God works in mysterious ways. I am not one to question Him.

Again I say Deborah was a woman whom God chose to counsel Israel and men who were normally chosen to do that job were ignored by God. Read Judges 4 and 5. I hope that you don’t hang on so tight to the counsels of men that you ignore God’s ability to work.

38And now I say unto you, Refrain from these men, and let them alone: for if this counsel or this work be of men, it will come to nought:

39But if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it; lest haply ye be found even to fight against God.

Acts 5:38, 39

I don’t think it’s fair to lump all women into the jealousy catagory; I was told during the 2008 race that I only supported her because she was a woman, which just pissed me off royally.

I’m a woman and I think Gov. Palin is the best thing to happen in politics. I don’t care about other women’s cattiness in characterizing Palin as neither a “Heather” nor a nerd. She is a normal woman who decided to get involved. She’s a christian and she hunts and that’s just a little of what I love about her. Not to mention she has natural leadership abilities and loads of common sense.
