Honduras Congress Rejects Zelaya's Reinstatement

TEGUCIGALPA — A majority in the Honduran Congress have voted against reinstating deposed President Manuel Zelaya and allowing him to finish out his term of office.

A simple majority of 65 lawmakers in the 128-member body voted against Zelaya's return to the presidency shortly before 730 pm (0130 GMT) on Wednesday after more than six hours of debate.

I wonder if they were really just one vote away from reinstating him, or if they only got 65 because that was all they needed.

The US has already agreed to accept the outcome. To my knowledge so has Zelaya.

I doubt either will accept it in the end. I am just happy that Hussein did a U-turn on this one, albeit a cowardly U-turn.
