Col. Van T. Barfoot, one of the country's last-surviving Medal of Honor winners, is under the gun from his Henrico County community's homeowner association. In a five-paragraph letter to Barfoot that he received yesterday, Barfoot is being ordered to remove a flagpole from his yard.

Dayum! Perhaps the HOA should read that before they continue messing with him.
HOAs are evil and are inevitably filled with the petty control-freaks of the neighborhood. They are incompatible with liberty. YMMV.
I would rather live in a dumpster than submit to a HOA. Really, I would.
Bears Repeating.
I'd have been busy changing my pants. Doubt that an "official letter" from some busybody HOA is going to phase this guy much.
Which is why I refused to consider buying a home in one of these places. I've paid too big a price for my freedom to allow a bunch of busybodies micromanage my day-to-day life.
Maybe we ought to give him his Tommy Gun back and let him settle it that way. According to his citation, he sure knows how to use it.
This guy took on 3 Tiger tanks single-handed?
Usually it took 3-4 Shermans to knock one out (loosing 2-3 Shermans in the process)!
Where do we get such men?
Do we Mississippians have to augment the ANV again to keep the Democrats and Communists at bay again?
Just earlier today, after reading an article about the war on Christmas mumbo-jumbo, I thought to myself, “What’s next, we won’t be able to fly the American flag?”
And here it is...
Wow. He deserved about three Medals of Honor for all that. Amazing.
I suggest he do a re-enactment substituting HOA board members for the machine gun nests but that’s just a fantasy. Why do they want to take on Rambo?
Won’t allow the flagpole?
These bas***ds should not only allow it but PAY FOR IT!! In the America I remember there would be a neighborhood ceremony with the Colonel every night and we’d be damned proud to be there with him.
Like it matters. When they were handing out Guts, this guy got an extra helping.
And, actually, I just did a little homework. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panzer_IV
<P)I’ve seen one of these at the Tank Museum in Danville, VA and was surprised at how modern it looked.
to col. barfoot:
thank you for your service to this great country.
if these people continue to hassle you, simply look them in the eye and tell them that whichever one of them won the moh may take your flagpole down. that oughta shut ‘em up.
*Which is why I refused to consider buying a home in one of these places. I’ve paid too big a price for my freedom to allow a bunch of busybodies micromanage my day-to-day life.*
One wonders why this gentleman, who went to such great lenghts to kill Nazis, would willingly submit to live under such petty tyrants.
I would have bought land far away from other people, if I had made it through such an ordeal.
Neighbors and relatives should take up a collection, hire an electrician, and install a dusk-activated spotlight on that flag so he can fly it day and night! This homeowners’ association stinks. Just stinks.
I have kin who were original settlers of Henrico Co. and a daughter and grandchildren who live there now. None of them would approve of this weasly HOA. They weren’t First Families of VA and Revolutionary War soldiers for nuthin’.
He should get enough real Americans in his association together and recall the damn board. Put some patriots in there. Or hang the flag from a pole on the side of the house or garage.
That misses the point. He should keep his flag pole. A 90 year old man in good shape can raise and lower a flag on a freestanding pole, but removing and replacing a flag on a stick on the side of your house takes real effort. (I have both types.) Besides, a flag on a pole is more dignified.
Where do these flag haters come from? I have friends with a cottage at a popular vacation area in Wisconsin. They put up a flag pole on the side of their house overlooking Lake Michigan. The neighbors had a fit but didn't want to confront our friend directly. SO, they got the Sec. of State of WI -- another neighbor (a Dem, of course) to ask my friends to move the pole into the woods where the complainers couldn't see it. Outrageous. BTW, the complainers are retired IL school teachers, so that shows you the state of public education around here. The flag still flies.
Go for it, Col. Barfoot! Fly your flag and don't back down for any of those weasels.
And someone give him a Thompson.
