Experts fear ousted Afghan Taliban will simply cross the border (and wait Obama out)

Pakistanis do not doubt that President Obama's troop buildup will give U.S. and allied forces more wherewithal to uproot Taliban militants from their strongholds in Afghanistan.

What worries them is that the strategy will push Afghan Taliban over the porous border and bolster the ranks of brethren militants in Pakistan's tribal areas, security experts say.

Pakistanis remain skeptical that Obama's new blueprint for winning the war in Afghanistan will pacify their volatile, unstable neighbor to the west.

They put little, if any, trust in Afghan President Hamid Karzai, whose government has been crippled by widespread corruption, and they doubt that his army will be able to defend Afghanistan when American troops leave.

Pakistan's most immediate worry, though, is that Obama's plan to send an additional 30,000 U.S. troops could force Afghan fighters to seek refuge across the border with their Pakistani counterparts.

Does anyone think that might be the Obama plan?

The Taliban or Al Quaeda wait across the border, Obama claims victory and pulls out. They come back and take over, Obama claims victory.

Ya think? I'm convinced that when you consider the current ROE we do not have the stomach for war any more. Setting a time frame for extraction is asinine. What we need to do is make the Afghan-Paki border a real no man's land by mining it to the hilt, then go in to each and every rat's nest and extract the vermin. End of story.

I'll go with New Orleans on that one.

Obama thought that shaming Karzai with what corruption is in Afghanistan would force him to make decisions that benefit Obama but it did nothing of the sort except Obama put himself in his own box.

Last November there was 1 US troop death but this November there was 17. The US Troop deaths has double under Obama and yet he continues to blame Bush.

Great analogy. This is what happens when you have a good speech maker posing as Commander in Chief.

Next they will ask the generals who made the original recommendation testify in Congress that this plan will succeed. Congress may have them swear on the bones of ancient relics that OBAMA's policy is the correct one.

Then if and when there is a failure, Congress can blame this all on the Generals and the Bush Administration.

The real problem is that the average American will believe them.

Obama’s going to declare victory but it won't mean a thing if the Taliban manage to continue to kill US Troops at their current pace and then take over provinces.

It doesn’t take an expert to figure this out. Of course they will lay low for a year and allow Obama to declare victory and leave. And frankly the American public won’t care what happens in Afghanistan after our forces leave. Until the next terrorist attack of course.

The next terrorist attack on U.S. Soil of the magnitude of the one that took place on September 11, 2001 will allow the OBAMA Administration to declare a state of national emergency followed by Martial Law.

The most important casualty will be the elective process.

0 being born in Hawaii does not end the argument.

Because place is only half of the requirement.

If as Comrade Obama Jr claims his dad was Barak Hussein Obama Sr, of Kenya,
than it's not possible for Junior to be a Natural Born Citizen of the U.S.

At the time of the drafting and ratification of the United States constitution,
the definition of natural born citizen, combined both the principles of jus soli and jus sanguinis.

“The citizens are the members of the civil society; bound to this society by certain duties, and subject to its authority, they equally participate in its advantages. The natives, or natural-born citizens, are those born in the country, of parents who are citizens.
As the society cannot exist and perpetuate itself otherwise than by the children of the citizens, those children naturally follow the condition of their fathers, and succeed to all their rights. The society is supposed to desire this, in consequence of what it owes to its own preservation; and it is presumed, as matter of course, that each citizen, on entering into society, reserves to his children the right of becoming members of it. The country of the fathers is therefore that of the children; and these become true citizens merely by their tacit consent. We shall soon see whether, on their coming to the years of discretion, they may renounce their right, and what they owe to the society in which they were born. I say, that, in order to be of the country, it is necessary that a person be born of a father who is a citizen; for, if he is born there of a foreigner, it will be only the place of his birth, and not his country.”
Emmerich De Vattel, (1714-1767,) Law of Nations, 1758, § 212, "Of the citizens and naturals."

I think that is what Obama and his cabinet had in mind. The did not learn that politicians should not try to run the war from Lyndon Johnson, but they did learn what the North Vietnamese did when they could see that our withdrawal was imminent.

The General asked for 40,000 troops for a reason. Giving him 30,000 is not enough. Everybody but somebody who is challenged, knows that they cut the number back to assuage the anti-war left.

This headline expresses PRECISELY the VERY FIRST THOUGHT passing through my head immediately upon hearing about this “plan”.

It is EXACTLY OPPOSITE of the type of strategy that General Petreaus employed in Iraq, wants to employ in Afghanistan, and that is expressed in the CounterInsurgency Manual he helped write:
