A Word to the Huck Haters

Cop-Killer???

A little bit of light needs to be shed on a funny little thing called FACTS as it pertains to the issues surrounding the suspected cop-killer Maurice Clemmons. Shamefully prominent voices in the Conservative punditocracy (mostly ones who supported Romney in the last go-round) have come out attempting to link Gov. Mike Huckabee to the killings in Seattle that took the lives of four police officers.

Most of these spared little thought for the families, and jumped right into the band-wagon in denouncing Huck as soft on crime, and a friend to criminals, or a bleeding heart Christian. (Funny how the mainstream always accuses Christians of not having a heart.)

All that being said, these Conservative pundits are wrong on the material substance in linking the two and if they continue to do so it says more about their own character than that of the former Governor.

Yes Gov. Huckabee commuted a 100+ year sentence for a person who was a minor when he committed a series of burglaries. He commuted it all the way down to 40 years.

But let’s get some facts straight:

1. That commutation did not pardon, declare innocent or acquit Clemmons of his wrong doing.

2. Clemmons remained on parole following his commutation and when he violated that parole he was brought in for those crimes. (At this point in time, Huckabee’s involvement with Clemmons was over.)

3. It was prosecutorial malfeasance that THEN allowed Clemmons to walk free, NOT a Huckabee commutation.

4. Sometime after that incident Clemmons moves to Washington State, and by all signs possible, lives the life of a model citizen.

5. After that 5-6 year stretch of time Clemmons begins to have skirmishes with Washington State authorities.

6. In Washington State there is a 3 strike law. Which means that when accumulating serious offenses in that state, the third time will incur automatic sentencing that can not be altered.

7. The child-rape Clemmons was most recently charged with was considered his 3rd strike IN WASHINGTON.

I'm glad I found this more balanced and reasoned perspective before I jumped on the Hate-Huck bandwagon following the murder of four police officers.

Those funny things called FACTS are actually quite important.

Facts are funny things aren’t they.

This doesn’t sway me one bit. I consider anyone who commits more than one serious crime a perpetual danger to society.

With or without the clemency, I still can’t put up with the Huckster.

Just because one thinks Huckabee is not qualified for a given office does not make one a Huckabee hater.

Watch the Factor interview he did with Bill O’Reilly the other day. He didn’t apologize nor did he take full responsibility for his decision. He got on national TV and blamed the judge and the prosecutors of the case. I don’t hate Huck, I just think he’s a weasel.

I don't hate Huckabee and he probably makes a fine talk show host on FoxNews. However, he has categorically showed himself unfit to hold public office by pardoning over 700 hardened criminals - at least two of which (that we already know of) that have gone on to commit multiple murders. This is a serious breach of the public trust.

In 1988, Mike Dukakis was considered unfit for president (and deservedly so) for the same exact reason. Being a religious conservative does not mitigate the fact that when it comes to crime, Huckabee is a bleeding heart who put his own personal beliefs (of redemption) above the public safety of the citizens he swore to protect.

Even more galling Bill O’Reilly calls Huckabee a “stand up guy” basically for appearing on the Factor. He eviscerates a lot of people on a nightly basis on all sides, but since Huck is on the same payroll as O’Reilly, he got cut some slack.

The Dumond case isn’t funny at all. Freepers have been on top of this one in years past ~ particularly since it seems to start with one of Bill Clinton’s relatives, and how he, as Governor before Jim Guy Tucker AND “The Huck” tried to deal with the situation. Huckabee got the ball rolling. The commutation made Clemmons immediately eligible for parole.

Huckabee is as culpable as everyone else who enabled this to happen.

[Most of these spared little thought for the families]

I can’t speak for others but that was the a primary motive for denouncing the governor, that and the lives of the murdered policemen.

Yes,facts are funny things and MAIN fact is his commutation LED to the deaths of these policeman. You can sugarcoat it all you like but that FACT can not be in dispute.

I find it amazing that somehow you can bring Romney into your analysis as to why people are disturbed by the actions of Huckabee. THAT has to be speculation not FACT.

You ‘reasoned perspective’ is just a myopic vision of the truth.

Once an animal—always an animal. The thought of letting this animal out should never have occurred to anyone.

(At this point in time, Huckabee’s involvement with Clemmons was over.)

Laughable. Without Huckabee this psycho is still in jail on the conviction that Huckabee tampered with to get him out. Period.
