I’m giving him the nickname President Primetime. You can go ahead and use that if you want.

"President Lyndon Baines Johnson agonized throughout his White House years about the War in Vietnam..."

Here's Obama "agonizing" over Afghanistan:

Reading through the live thread, my thoughts were

“#$@$ LBJ’s back”

The play book for the Tali now is to wait it out, or inflict enough specific damage to sour the public, think TET, and feed the public discord while they wait.

either way, it sucks to be us.

Right. Johnson KNEW he was going to get into Vietnam before the election in 64. He kept those plans secret to protect his “Great Society” domestic agenda. He broke his campaign promises with the Gulf of Tonkin fiasco.

I was just skimming some of the threads at DU for pure schadenfreude reasons and found several posts comparing Obama to LBJ. But the consensus is that Barry is nowhere near the progressive leader LBJ was. Funny...sorta.

Lyndon Johnson Is Back In The White House

Nope! Lyndon didn't have ears like that and sure as hell his nose didn't shine like that!!!!!!!

This guy is one of a kind and can't even be compared to the clown who started the welfare state..... He can, however, be compared to other socialists who tried to control the people of the world.

Exactly what I was saying. LBJ tried to fight a war and not fight a war at the same time. The problem with Vietnam was that it was a no-win war. “The purpose of war is victory, not the endless prolongation of hostilities.” No-win wars are about the most immoral policy a leader can implement.

Nobody wants another Vietnam, but with BO’s timetable for withdrawal in place, that is exactly what we have. BO gave McChrystal only 3/4 of what he said he needs to win the war.

I’d like to support his troop surge as I supported the surge in Iraq. It worked magnificently. And if we withdraw, the Taliban will most likey come back into power and we’ll be in the same situation that we were in before 9/11.

But as it is now, all that figures to happen after July 2011, but with many more American lives lost between now and then. If that is the case, then we should just withdraw now ad save thousands of lives.

Wasn’t it LBJ that also managed to throw away the “lockbox” for Social Security funds and allow that money to be used in the general fund?
