In a half-mile-long procession of motorcycles and patrol cars with their lights flashing, the Lakewood Police Department brought its four fallen officers home Tuesday morning.
The bodies of the four officers slain Sunday morning were taken from the Pierce County Medical Examiners building at South 36th Street and Pacific Avenue to Mountain View Funeral Home on Steilacoom Boulevard in Lakewood.
They had been brought to the Medical Examiner early Sunday evening from Parkland where they were shot by a similar escort of Lakewood officers. Four Lakewood Fire Department Medic One units carried the bodies of Officers Mark Renninger, 39; Ronald Owens, 37, Tina Griswold, 40, and Greg Richards, 42, in flag-draped caskets to Lakewood.
About 300 people gathered in silence in the chill wind on the sidewalks outside the Medical Examiners Office as the procession began at 10:30 a.m. and proceeded south on Pacific Avenue. Most of them worked in the Pierce County Health Department offices across the street and other health related offices there.
Employees of Charles River Clinical Services in the building next to the Medical Examiners offices stood in a group behind an American flag held by two employees.
Police closed down the section of Pacific Avenue between South 34th Street and South 37th Street more than an hour before the procession began to accommodate the lineup of police vehicles.

So sad. these police officers were gunned down by some scumbag who should have been in prison.
May God have mercy on thier souls. As for the scumbag and those that helped him escape, and those who reveled in the killings, Damn you to hell.
Huh?
RIP Blue Angels
On a Seattle area radio station last night they asked that when we put up Christmas lights this year, light one window with Blue lights or set up a blue light in it to honor the fallen Officers. Great idea. I saw one house already on the drive into work.
God rest them. How terribly sad..
Great idea.
The first escorted procession was from the crime scene to the ME office. Then this one from the ME office to the funeral home.
We heard that blue light discussion on KOMO also.
Just trying to figure out how to implement it...
God bless your souls and comfort your families and loved ones.
It's a very poorly written sentence that reads as if the four officers were shot by their own PD.
It should read something like:
On Sunday evening, a similar procession of Lakewood officers escorted the four slain officers from Parkland, where the four had been shot, to the Medical Examiner's Office in Lakewood.
Thanks for the clarifications. If there is any ambiguity of syntax I almost always take things the wrong way.
