How would you spend $787 billion in government money?

Probably not like this.

Unfortunately, the details of the stimulus package had many states' hands tied - their funds had to be allotted to certain types of projects, or they wouldn't get any of it.

On those terms, these states did what any of us would do: they took the money and ran with it.

Yes, any form of stimulus spending helps by creating jobs and injecting money into the economy... but some of these are pretty ridiculous.

Senator Tom Coburn outlined the worst offenders in his report, "100 Stimulus Projects: A Second Opinion;" here are our favorites from his list.

Was that a Photoshopped picture of Bush under the headline: "Studying how paying attention ..."? Or was it an actor?

Either way, I think it detracts from the story.

As Florida’s unemployment rate hits 11.2 percent, the state’s number one priority is obvious: making sure that turtles and alligators can cross the road safely via a 13-foot underground tunnel, to the tune of $3.4 million.

How can a small dirt tunnel under a small paved road cost this???????

Can’t the boy scouts or eagle scouts or unemployed dig one for say 500 bucks?

Maybe Acorn, or are they all too round too loud and too you know what.

Hell, I’d do it for less than $3.4 million!!!! I bid half!!!

The same characters that approved this nonsense are now telling us we have to be taxed extra to pay for the war in Afghanistan.

I hate the road signs. They are all over the place where I live. I have rants about the stupid road signs to myself and to my kids.

What a total waste of money!!!!!!!

At least, they do remind me every time why I need to vote the scum out of Washington.

I am about to go and purchase some green posterboard and make a partial cover for these signs so that they say:

PROJECT FUNDED BY YOUR CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN

I keep on thinking that basically that instead of road signs they could have purchased private healthcare for someone.
