House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) spent $2,993 in taxpayer money on flowers between June and October. House Majority Whip James Clyburn has a thing for Chantilly Donuts, spending about $500 at the Virginia shop in the past quarter. And Rep. Tim Walz (D-Minn.), a fiscal conservative, decided to give about $2,000 in unused office funds back to the government to help reduce the deficit.
These expenditures culled from thousands of line items released Monday by the Chief Administrative Officer of the House are just a fraction of the $300 million spent last quarter by House offices. But while the bulk of congressional office spending goes to salaries and routine office expenses, some of the line items offer a window into the personalities and priorities of each congressional office.
Pelosi, who has come under fire in the past for spending on flowers, also spent roughly $30,610 in food and beverage and about $2,740 on bottled water, contributing to the nearly $120,531 total from all congressional leadership accounts. Her offices defended the charges, saying the Speakers office holds more ceremonial events with visiting dignitaries than other congressional offices. They also use a local florist.

SERIOUSLY, I would really love to learn the ORIGIN of the flowers, as so many are flown in from foreign countries, because our flower farms just ain't good enuff, ya know?
Anyone who has been to the Capitol bldg. knows that the argument that her office needs to be decorated for ceremonial visits is specious.
I can see bottled water spending, but given the “save the environment” position of the Democratic Party, a five gallon dispenser or filtered water dispenser would be a one time expense with a small amount of maintenance and it would be consistent with the Party platform for reducing waste and consumption, and it will also generate very little landfill material and burn less fuel to produce per liter than the bottled water solution.
And how come the “Food & Beverage” line item is so high? What is that? $1500 of tax payer dollars per week spent on food and beverage? That’s more than most Americans make in two weeks of work. And if you’ve been to the Capitol, they have a pretty darned awesome cafeteria.... So what’s up with the expensive eating out? Who the heck is she “hosting” for her lunches and dinners that make them “work” related?
This stinks of abuse, and it doesn’t matter if it is a Republican or a Democrat doing it. It is right up there with her request for newer, bigger planes to carry her, her staff, and her family anywhere she may wish to go. She considers such perks her “right” by way of victory.
Mannequin Lady spending three thousand bucks for flowers? Surprise? Surprise?
Gee, I could afford 2 new cars for me and my husband, instead of the 10 year old clunkers we’re making do with now, for that kind of dough. Lot more beneficial than something that dies and gets thrown away every few days.
Q: “Mrs Speaker, how do you justify such extravagant spending of taxpayer dollars”
A: You must be an astroturfer..
Q: “ Please just answer the question”
A: Ya know....(sob) I remember the violence in the 70’s from people like you and (sob,sob....sniffle)I am terrified for myself and my family.
LOL! From your keyboard to God’s Ears! May we live to see it happen!
I was about to post something similar. The money is actually going to a florist and a grower. What I’d like to know is who is the florist, and who is the grower.
Also, we have NO idea if these are vases of flowers in her office, or special corsages for her to wear to dinner parties -— or if actually the bulk of the almost three grand was for flower arrangements for official funerals — those floral memorials are not inexpensive.
Pelosi is so far gone that when God sends her to hell, she won’t know why.
Nancy and her husband are worth around 200,000,000.00 dollars. They can buy their own F’n flowers.
We need to get a high pressure fire hose and clean the crap out of Congress and the White House.
Nancy (an ARDENT Catholic) has forgotten a couple very basic lessons which apply to any Christian......
What goes around comes around. The “do unto others” message is lost on her.
You can’t take it with you. What will you have to show for your evil deeds, Nancy? Think you can buy a room at the Heavenly Hilton? Your millions won’t get you squat there.
She didn’t even keep the clothes! The only reason she wore them was to make the McCainiacs happy.
I thought it was Louis the XIV.
Was I wrong?
These expenditures are only for July 1, 2009 to September 30, 2009!
Nancy stopped worship of Jesus along time ago.
