Movement under way in California to ban divorce

SACRAMENTO — Til death do us part? The vow would really hold true in California if a Sacramento Web designer gets his way.

In a movement that seems ripped from the pages of Comedy Channel writers, John Marcotte wants to put a measure on the ballot next year to ban divorce in California.

The effort is meant to be a satirical statement after California voters outlawed gay marriage in 2008, largely on the argument that a ban is needed to protect the sanctity of traditional marriage. If that's the case, then Marcotte reasons voters should have no problem banning divorce.

I would be for a ban on divorce.

If what you say under oath is, “Until DEATH do us part,” then that is what it must be.

I’m for divorce for all others who say “Until DIVORCE do us part.”

Know anyone who says that under oath?

"The attack on marriage continues."

Yes, but this one is going nowhere.

If it weren’t satirical.....Hollywood would make certain that it was defeated....

Ah...comedy writers where would we be without their incisive political and philosophical advice?

Please, kiddies leave the hard thinking to the grown ups and stick to writing fart jokes or whatever the hell it is you do for a living.

When the gay marriage advocates find out how nasty and ugly divorce is, they might decide “marriage” is not all that good for them. The fallout is coming. Actions have consequences.

I would like to know what he would do if such a ban passes.

Conservatives have learned not to make bad jokes like this in front of liberals. It gives them ideas.

You know, I agree with you 100%. It should be made a purely religious vow and ceremony, which is initially what it started as. Give everybody else the option of a civil union or whatever you want to call it. You could make or break those on a whim, which is what half of the marriages end up being anyway. Then we could move on to actually solving imminent problems, like invading Muslim hordes, etc. Makes sense to me.

This guy is pretty smart.

I have long thought that the best way to fight abortion is to come out in favor of abortion through to the 18th year of life. Time has shown that if you portray a fetus as a living, feeling human being well....attitudes change. I have an obstetrician buddy that does the 4-D fetal imaging in his practice and since he started performing the test he has noticed his pregnant patients’ adoption rate has noticeably increased. Not scientific proof but he has a gut feeling it is these candid shots that hit these moms in the gut and also in their heart.

What a Fantastic idea!       My own viewpoint codified into statutory law!

I have always said marriage is for life.   If one doesn't get along with a spouse, she moves to one coast and he moves to the other coast.

I would prefer a south seas island myself.   The point is, if you seek the benefits you should consider beforehand and abide by the consequences.

My mother buried two husbands.   None of my grandparents ever divorced.   I've been married for 35 years and my wife and I are even now still learning what a wonderful blessing we have in each other.   I don't believe Liberal fools even deserve my pity.

Lest any jerks try to harpoon my choices in life, I'll disclose that my wife and I had a blind date on May third and we married on June 28th.

The only reason they are in it anyway is so they can charge for a marriage license and tax people.

Oh, they'll care when it affects them personally, right in the pocket book. Who gets the kids? Who gets the estate?

Gheys have higher incidence of alcohol and drug abuse and domestic violence than the general population. Off to a bad start already. They're gonna find out that "marriage" thing ain't so easy. The fallout is coming.
