In recent polls, Huckabee is still considered the favorite for the GOP nomination in 2012 among evangelicals. That ingredient, plus his own treachery in West Virginia, is what got us McCain in 2008.
So, even if he’s not an announced candidate, his poll numbers need to be whittled down among evangelicals and if that voter block begins looking elsewhere, that could provide a big boost to Palin should she run.
It may also open the door to one or two more conservatives entering the ring to vie for that vote which is, in my mind, a good thing.
While the Beltway “wisdom” says Palin can’t win but Huckabee could, I believe it is just the opposite.
What happened in W. Virginia re: Huckabee?
To be honest, I spent most of last election working against Obama that I didn’t pay as much attention to the GOP side as I should have.
This situation should change minds. I’m what would be considered ‘evangelical’ and I’ve never liked this guy. He’s a weasel with that awww shucks demeanor. I agree with you regarding Sarah Palin. But 2012 is a long way off and we’ve got so much to contend with right now. I’m glad that truth keeps finding a way out though. imho MH is through.
Huckabee is a perfect example of the religious LEFT in this country. He might as well be Al Sharpton. It’s mighty scary when someone from the religious LEFT has power. They forgive people before they deserve forgiveness. In fact, Bill Clinton (another church-going member of the religious LEFT) let FALN terrorists out of prison early before they even asked to be let out. I guess Clinton taught Huck everything he knows and doesn’t know. Another black eye for Arkansas. They have more black eyes than they have eyes.
Huck da *uck is what I think of as a "Briar Patch Republican" -- as in the story of Brer Rabbit and the briar patch.
Brer Rabbit, having been caught at something or other, was being sentenced for his misdeeds, and pleaded with the court for mercy -- his plea consisted of begging for anything other than being thrown into that ol' briar patch -- please, mercy, do ANYTHING to me, but PLEASE don't throw me in that awful briar patch!
Of course, for a rabbit, being thrown into the briar patch would be like a fish being thrown into the pond. But, Brer Rabbit, ever the canny cony, counted on the stupid judges not realizing this, and thinking HIM foolish enough to let them know of the "punishment" he feared the most.
So, the reverse psychology worked, and he was given the ultimate punishment -- and laughed his bunny butt off as he hopped into the bramble.
Hucka*uck is the left's FAVORITE "conservative" -- as in, "Oh, boy, that Huckabee, I tell ya, he'd be a STRONG contender, he'd be someone hard for us to beat. We sure hope we're not up against HUCK come next election cycle!"
And, sure enough, The Stupid Party -- true to its calling -- anoints the turd, WAY early in the game -- and begins the "Trashing of Sarah" campaign equally early in the game.
If there was a Nobel Prize for consistently shooting oneself in the foot, the Stupid Old Party would be the perennial winner.
When I saw how they were whoring themselves away for *uckabee, I gave up any hope of NOT enduring a second Zerobama term.
Of course, they've still got that good ol' Mitty to use to sink the ship.
The Stupid Party will never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity. You'd never think ANYONE would be so stupid as to pit a posterboy for flaccidity like Dole against an aggressive carnivorous priap like Clinton -- but, that's exactly what they did.
And then they turn around and do basically the same thing THIS time around, ensuring the Obama win.
And still, they can't quite get it through their head -- instead of coming up with a VIABLE candidate, they persist in their pathological political self-destruction, and foist this sad toad on what's left of their party.
Unless Mitt pulls a huck-grade seppuku move too, I expect they'll anoint him as the next loser.
And, if he does kick himself out of the race, I expect they'll dredge up some other loser, rather than "allow" Palin a chance at the brass ring. I suspect that they still nurse a mega-dose of get-even grudge over her "sin" of cleaning up the GOP ranks in Alaska. Party Uber Alles, and all that jolly old rot, after all.
Basically, I see no real hope at all for the next election.
