At least 29 passengers were killed and about 75 were injured when the Nevsky Express train from Moscow to St. Petersburg derailed, an emergencies ministry source said Saturday. It was not immediately clear what caused the accident. Just prior to the accident, the train driver had applied the brakes. The last four cars out of thirteen were involved from train #166 at 18:34 GMT Moscow time.
A mobile field hospital was being flown to the accident site, near Bologoye, 200 miles from Moscow, to render assistance to injured passengers. Ambulances, Federal Security Service officers, law enforcement, emergency services and railroad specialists are already at the site.
Thirty injured passengers have been sent to hospitals in Bologoye, Alyoshinka and Borovichi. Another 20 injured were sent to Uglovka. Besides sabotage, a power outage is also a possible cause to the derailment of the last four cars of the train. Twenty-three people died instantly and 2 others in hospital. The train was carrying 682 people 653 passengers and 29 crew coach attendants and engine drivers.

FoxNews just reported that they’ve found ‘a bomb crater and explosive residues’ at the scene....
(If it had happened in the good ol’ U S of A, the FBI would, at this point, be saying, “Terrorism not involved.”)
How sad for the innocent victims of this.
Any word on who did this and why?
Damn. Bump. Better news on it’s way hopefully.
” Any word on who did this and why? “
Not that Fox is reporting, at this time....
That's weird. Coincidental?
"We have the blast remains; a crater. There is little doubt this is terrorism," a source in Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin's office told Fox News.
Were this to happen here, the response from the government would be: 'there is no reason to suspect terrorism'.
I wish I had read your post before posting mine. :)
I’ve ridden the Nevsky express twice.
I was also in the underground mall in Red Square a week before it was bombed by mohammedan Chechen terrorists.
Wow
“(If it had happened in the good ol U S of A, the FBI would, at this point, be saying, Terrorism not involved.)”
Yes, probably just an act of destruction by a disturbed individual who was harmed by a systemic failure of our social system. /sarc
Maybe the Putin regime will reconsider their `Realpolitik’ foreign policy and stop playing footsie with the Iranians and other dangerous Islamic regimes although this was probably engineered by their own domestic Islamist terrorists the Russian-speaking Chechens. Has the Beslan horror of 2004 been forgotten so quickly?
Interesting that a portable field hospital was flown to the blast site. Something that only standing armies possess. In America, railroad crash victims are quickly medevac’d by ambulance or helicopter to nearby hospitals whose treatment capabilities have to be superior to any field facility. Must be the remoteness of the Russian countryside that necessitated this measure.
We are not world travellers. We were there on business. People in Russia are friendly enough, but there’s no place like home.
I will predict that this is the work of mohammedans.
99% of terrorist acts are perpetrated by them, so if I’m right, it won’t be because I have any remarkable prescience.
Do you have a solid alibi?
A non screaming at the top of his lungs death wish?

As a side effect of our involvement with Russia, we had a Russian college student in our home at the time of the Beslan massacre. His mother called from Russia and we could hear her wailing from across the room. She told him to connect to a live TV website where Putin was addressing the nation.
We surfed over to the Russian TV web site, and he translated for us what Putin was saying. Putin promised to kill every last person even peripherally involved with the massacre.
I continued to read the Moscow Times, Pravda, and St. Petersburg Times, all available in English over the internet.
It seems that Putin kept his promise.
In one event, they had surrounded a house where it was thought one of the suspects lived. The Spetznaz opened fire and killed everyone in theh building. Charges were filed in the ICC in the Hague, and the Russian officer in charge of the Spetznaz unit that day was ordered to appear to answer charges. He refused and sent a one-sentence answer to the charges. “We heard a shot.”.
The Russians finally were able to get to Shamil Basayev, the planner of the Beslan atrocities as well as several other major terrorist attacks in Russia.
You can see the results here.

The guys who blew up this train will be hunted down and killed, and some of their family members will die as collateral damage. I’m certain of it.
When will Russia and China say enough is enough with the muslim vermin in their countries. Hope it’s soon.
Sadly, I fear very few of our idol-worshipping population has any awareness that it ever happened.
Sure sounds a lot better than: 'I assure you that those responsible will be brought to justice'
Interesting. While I question his methods, I admire his resolve.
