WINDERMERE, Fla. -- Golfer Tiger Woods was seriously injured when he hit a fire hydrant and then a tree outside of his Isleworth home early on Friday morning, officials said.

The Florida Highway Patrol said Woods was seriously injured and taken to Health Central Hospital. The Orange County Fire Department confirmed that a patient was taken to Health Central, but would not confirm that the patient was Woods.

Woods was driving a 2009 black Escalade, FHP said. He hit a fire hydrant outside of his home and a tree outside his neighbor's home.

FHP said the crash is still under investigation.

Update: Authorities: Tiger Woods hurt in Fla. car crash

It sounds like a fender bender, how do you get seriously injured going 33 miles per hour, especially in a big car like an Escalade

Easy.

You don’t wear your seatbelt and hit a tree.

If your Air bags don’t deploy (which they didn’t) you’re in the hurt locker

His “driveway” may be a mile or more long.

I find it hard to believe he was backing up though if the drive way was long.

Just speculating, but if he was in reverse, and got his feet confused between the accelerator and the brake, that big V-8 can get that Escalade moving pretty fast, pretty quick.

As you look behind you, trying to steer, your tendency is to mash even harder on what you think is the brake, making things even worse.

When I was a young, inexperienced driver, this happened to me. I took out a mailbox and a fence before I figured it out. I was wearing a seatbelt at the time, but it was a pretty bumpy ride!

There’s another story online about his caddie being injured in a car racing accident....back in 2005.

Facial and head lacerations bleed ALOT, so it’s possible that he looked worse than he actually was.

Family guy storms out of his house at 2:30AM on Thanksgiving night...

Here's hoping that he was just making a mad frantic dash to Wally World to get a heck of an after-Thanksgiving-Day deal on an HDTV.

I had not heard the affair rumor. This is very disturbing. I can think of very few reasons a “family man” married to a supermodel or whatever she is, would have to be out at this time of day. Nothing good can happen.

Speaking of Christie Brinkley....did Tiger take driving lessons from Billy Joel?

"Exactly. Instead he lets white race-baiters use him. Ran off to Phil Knight's (Nike) cabin for two weeks and then finally issued a press release which ignored Fuzzy's apology. "

I know I'm in the minority here, but while I'm a fan of Tiger Woods the golfer, I'm not sure if I'm a fan of Tiger Woods the person. His language on the course is horrific - sometimes it's one F-bomb after another. The Fuzzy situation bothers me and he never strikes me as a particularly gracious person - especially in defeat, FWIW.

Being injured, pursued, upset, or otherwise distracted could have contributed to the crash.

No seat belts adds to the fleeing scenario.

Not buying the injured at 33mph in one of the biggest, safest SUVs ever made.

I dunno? Waiting to hear the Paul Harvey.

Man, doesn’t anyone here watch NCIS?

I'm sure Miss Sciuto shall ferret out the facts of the case.

Is the Caddie OK?

I am deeply saddened that he wasn't driving a Buick. Hasn't he been Buick's spokesman for approximately forever? Is there a Buick version of the Escalade?

You assume he isn’t tired of the wholesome look....and is now into a “different” look....

More to this than meets the eye.

What is a real shame is thousands of young men get their lives ruined by professional sports because they make millions of a gullible public that thinks they should make millions that they can’t possibly ever handle just because they play children’s sports very well....

Hugh Grant—he wasn’t married to Elizabeth Hurley, but same thing—hard to imagine being tired of that, in the first place, but then he goes after some cheap hooker who looked like 10 miles of bad road.....

I don’t care for Woods, but I hope he fully recovers from this , of course.

I also hope, while I’m hoping, he doesn’t break Jack Nicklaus’s “most majors won” record.

And I still am disappointed that we was cheating on his hot wife with that ugly Hamptons skank.

Tell us my friend, where did you get indisputable facts on this one? Or did you let your other head take over your thinking process due to over titilation from a supermarket tabloid?
